O que esperar

The beaches are far from Valldemossa – which helps explain why it's preserved its timeless beauty. This full day tour takes you to this historic highland town as well as Son Marroig palace to discover its impressive views along the west coast of Majorca. Ramon, one of our local guides, says, ‘Son Marroig is worth a visit for its history alone, but its location is so romantic that many Majorcans get married here.'

Son Marroig is itself a love story – that of Archduke Ludwig Salvator for the island of Majorca. This scion of the Austrian Habsburgs loved it so much that he bought the estate and owned it for most of his life. He was smitten by views of Sa Foradada headland and the azure Mediterranean – they're so good they're considered among the world's top 10 coastal views. You'll learn all about him during a guided tour of the palace, which has an intriguing collection of artefacts about him – he was a renowned conservationist, a man ahead of his time. And you'll also be able to take some selfies at the white marble pavilion where lovers say, ‘I do'.

A winding and scenic drive away is Valldemossa. Stroll the plant-fringed alleys and maybe visit the Charterhouse. Classical composer Frédéric Chopin stayed here for a winter, and it boasts period drawing rooms and a leathery library. And there's enough time to stop for a coffee in a local family-owned café. Ramon adds, ‘The villages of the Tramuntana Mountains are so well-preserved that the whole range is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.'
