O que esperar

Caminhe ao longo da Levada da Referta e do Castelejo e descubra este canal de irrigação artificial que, tal como muitos outros na Madeira, é utilizado para transportar água da parte norte da ilha para o sul.

Esta caminhada matinal levá-lo-á por caminhos sinuosos construídos pelo homem há vários anos. Terá a oportunidade de admirar algumas das aldeias da Costa Norte da Madeira, bem como a Rocha da Penha d'Águia.

Passando pelas plantações dos agricultores locais, ficará a conhecer a variedade das diferentes culturas e como se pratica a agricultura neste lado da ilha. Este é um passeio fácil com uma extensão total de 5,5 km.

After this, we'll head to Chão da Ribeira to savour a tasty local lunch. When the island was discovered in 1419 by Portuguese explorers, this is where they first landed.Heading off-road towards the north, you'll zigzag through an ancient laurel forest – a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 – on scenic trails towards the mountain town of Santana to see its steep-roofed, straw-thatched homes. After a well-deserved lunch break in a typical local restaurant, you'll round off with a pit stop at a nearby viewpoint, offering knockout coastal panoramas all the way to Madeira's easternmost point, the São Lourenço peninsula.
