Dit kun je verwachten

Als je naar IJsland reist, zijn de geisers, de Gouden Waterval Gullfoss en Þingvellir een absolute must-see. In slechts acht uur word je opgehaald bij je hotel en kun je alle drie de belangrijkste IJslandse bezienswaardigheden verkennen. Als bonus zie je ook nog iets heel unieks: de grote vulkaankrater Kerid.

Nationaal Park Þingvellir is het nationale domein van alle IJslanders: het ligt in de gordel van vulkanische activiteit en kloven die dwars door IJsland loopt, een deel van de Mid-Atlantische Rug die Europa van Amerika scheidt. Je kunt er met je rechtervoet op de ene kant en je linker op de andere kant staan, en je waant je op twee continenten tegelijk.

Vervolgens ziet u de grootste geisers van de Haukadalur-vallei: Strokkur en Geysir zelf, waaraan alle andere geisers ter wereld hun naam ontlenen. Strokkur barst elke 5 tot 10 minuten uit en spuit een waterkolom de lucht in tot een hoogte van 20 tot 30 meter. Bij Geysir kunt u lunchen voordat u naar de prachtige waterval Gullfoss gaat; u zult versteld staan van zijn brute kracht. Dit is het einde van de standaard Golden Circle-route, maar voordat u terugkeert naar Reykjavik, bezoekt u ook de vulkanische krater Kerid. De krater is 270 meter breed en meer dan 55 meter diep. Onderin de krater vindt u een meer, wat de krater een vleugje magie geeft.

This was a really enjoyable day. The guide was really informative. It was interesting to watch and eat the food prepared in the geothermal water in the ground at the first geyser and is something we didn’t experience on any other trip! More time would have been good at the Kerid Crater but we still managed to walk around it and down in the crater itself. There were plenty of stops during the day for refreshments and food if required. This is a must attend trip.

The tour was a full day of over 8 hours with some extra little visits given as well. Kristina our driver and guide was very helpful and amusing and talked us all the way round giving us a lot of very useful information. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone visiting Iceland.

Collected slightly late by Vlad , but not his fault as other customers at prior pick up didn’t turn up. Had to phone office as worried we’d been forgotten. Vlad was friendly and polite and handled more problematic customer with dry wit. Enjoyed day, although slightly rushed due to limited light.
