De schoonheid van de Canarische eilanden ontmoet de mediterrane sfeer in Puerto de Mogán. Denk aan pittoreske pleinen en witgekalkte huizen, waar manden met roze bougainvillea's voor een vleugje kleur zorgen. En raad eens? Onze trips op vrijdag brengen je naar het hart van de Mercadillo, de gezelligste marktdag van de stad. Onze lokale gids, Phillipe, zegt “Als je naar de Canarische Eilanden komt moet je gewoon wat tijd doorbrengen op een markt zoals die je tijdens deze tour bezoekt. Lokaal eten, traditionele souvenirs en af en toe live muziek zijn allemaal op één plek te vinden.”

Je wordt opgehaald bij je hotel en naar Puerto de Mogán gereden. En onderweg heb je de kans om wat Instagram-waardige foto's te maken. Eenmaal op bestemming aangekomen heb je de tijd aan jezelf om over de markt te struinen. Je vindt er van alles: van verse producten en lokale ambachten tot trendy mode. Dus een ideale plek om souvenirs in te slaan. En de omgeving lijkt met zijn palmbomen en vulkanische kliffen zo van een ansichtkaart te komen.

De lokale bewoners zijn ook nog eens supervriendelijk en hun marktkraampjes staan vol met unieke vondsten en lekkernijen. Struin op je gemak over de markt. Maak vervolgens de perfecte kiekjes voor thuis en chil met een 'cortado' – een espresso gemengd met warme melk – in een knus café. Of slenter op je gemak naar de jachthaven. Dan snap je meteen waarom Puerto de Mogan met zijn bruggen en kanalen 'Klein Venetië' wordt genoemd. Neem het allemaal in je op voordat je terugkeert naar je hotel.

There are electric eels, bull sharks and fish that look just like Nemo. ‘The kids are always happy in Poema del Mar,' says Miguel. You can also take advantage of their state-of-the-art cinema, showcasing hourly screenings of interesting and fun short films.Next, you'll journey through the island's greenest corner to Guayadeque Canyon. It's famed for its cave homes, which the ancient aborigines built in lava bubbles, and winding hiking trails. After exploring, you'll refuel with delicious traditional tapas made from locally sourced ingredients. Then it's on to Agüimes, where you'll have some free time to wander through this pastel-coloured parish perched above the green ravine of Guayadeque. You can see the elegant church, stop for a coffee in a local café or take some selfies by the town's many statues.

Explore on foot this tiny village clustered around a whitewashed church or stick your head into the famed cave dwellings museum. Round off the day with a Bandama crater photo stop, stopping en route by a family-run wine cellar to sample its volcanic earth wines.
