Questo tour di un'intera giornata nella parte settentrionale di Cipro vi porterà in tre dei luoghi più interessanti del territorio. Scoprirete l'antica città di Salamina, il centro storico di Famagosta e la "città fantasma" di Varosha. Elpida, una delle nostre guide locali, afferma che "Cipro Nord è un luogo congelato nel tempo. Possiamo persino individuare la data: il 1974. E il risultato è un pot-pourri Instagrammable di hotel incompiuti, chiese semidiroccate e minareti spelacchiati".

Il vostro viaggio nel passato inizia in epoca classica a Salamina. Esplorerete i suoi templi in rovina, il teatro parzialmente restaurato e altro ancora. Stavroula, un'altra delle nostre guide locali, dice che "non solo Salamina è intrisa di miti antichi, ma San Barnaba, che portò il cristianesimo a Cipro nel primo secolo, è sepolto in un monastero vicino".

Dopo il tempo libero per il pranzo, visiterete Famagosta, il cui centro storico è ancora protetto da mura difensive intatte costruite dai veneziani secoli fa. La guida vi mostrerà attrazioni come il castello e la cattedrale gotica trasformata in moschea. Elpida dice che "davanti all'ingresso principale c'è un albero di fico che fu piantato dai crociati che costruirono la cattedrale, quindi è il più antico essere vivente di Famagosta".Per completare la visita, c'è un tour a piedi nella "città fantasma" di Varosha. Questa località balneare, un tempo popolare, è rimasta abbandonata per più di 50 anni. È un'esperienza surreale camminare su strade invase da vegetazione, con facciate fatiscenti, persiane arrugginite e finestre rotte.

We were the first to be collected and last to be dropped off. Ridiculous number of pick ups. Couldn’t even hear the guide at the back of the bus. Horrible long day. We only wanted to see Famagusta and the abandoned area. Horrible experience- would not recommend. This trip lets TUI down badly

Hi, trip was very good. Loved the walled city, Salamis the Ghost town . The guide Nic was very knowledgable and took his time to explain the history of each . The Ghost town has changed a lot, with all personal items removed and people running around on bicycles and electric scooters, not respecting the history of the site. It is along day but worth it. I would have liked some extra time at the Ghost town but understood the time restraint.

The day was very enjoyable with several stops along the way for toilet breaks which was good. The final ghost town was bigger than expected and the time given to walk around without the guide wasn’t long enough. We found we had walked quite away to the realise that we had to quickly rush back for the bus. We did see people on scooters which should have maybe offered at the beginning as once you were in the town it was too late. Other than that a fantastic day.

The day was very full on. We all had a great day. Negative part was that being in Pathos we had an extra two hours on the coach. We didn't need all the coffee, toilet breaks. Maybe ask the people on the bus if they want one, if not then carry on. This would give us more time to walk around the village of Famagusta. We had to make the choice of having a quick lunch which was a bit rushed, so that we had more time to walk around. As it was the main event of the day, we would have preferred longer

Ancient Kourion tour with Paphos Harbour visit

Cyprus is home to some hugely important ancient Greek and Roman sites. On this tour, you'll take in Aphrodite's Rock, ancient Paphos and the Tombs of the Kings, visit Kourion – and enjoy free time in the Paphos harbour area. Andreas, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The Tombs of the Kings offer us a valuable insight into ancient Mediterranean culture. There are very similar tombs in Alexandria, demonstrating the strong ties between the two cities in ancient times.'After a coffee pit-stop along the way, you'll stop by Kourion archaeological site to see landmarks such as the theatre – dating from the 2nd century BC – and the Agora. En route to Paphos, there's a photo stop at Petra tou Romiou – or Aphrodite's Rock – where, legend has it, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty emerged from the sea foam. Andreas says, ‘At Kourion, you see the ruined house of Eustolios and find out what life was like here before the city was destroyed by an earthquake in the 4th century.'Next, we'll head to ancient Paphos for a guided visit of the Tombs of the Kings, the House of Dionysos and its well-preserved mosaics. Andreas says, ‘The rock-hewn Tombs of the Kings were not actually intended for royalty, but instead the aristocracy and island governors were laid to rest here. The name reflects the sheer grandeur of the necropolis.' Later, you'll enjoy some free time to shop and wander around Paphos Harbour. Maybe you can stroll along the waterfront or grab a bite to eat at one of the many terrace cafés.

Ancient Kourion, Omodos and winery tour from Limassol

Cyprus is all rolling hills dotted with pretty villages. On this adults-only tour, you'll see where a legend was born, visit the ruins of Kourion, venture to the village of Omodos and cap off the day with a wine tasting. Eva, one of our local guides, says of this excursion, ‘You'll wander through layers of history, culture and mythology.'You'll dive straight into the past at Kourion, one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus. Visit the Roman baths and amble into the site's centrepiece, the Greco-Roman theatre. Concerts are still held to this day. While the mosaics of the trio of excavated houses known as those of Eustolius, the Gladiators and Achilles are as impressive as when they were laid down. Then, we'll head for a local lunch in a family-run taverna before visiting the mountain-fringed village of Vouni, where you'll wander around skinny cobbled streets lined with Byzantine buildings. It's Eva's favourite village. She says,"the charm of the stone houses, the tranquillity and peace. It's as if it has sprung from a fairytale. I love dropping into one of the cafés and seeing locals have philosophical discussions, political arguments and a bit of gossip." To finish, there's a wine-tasting session, where you'll learn all about sweet commandaria wine – one of the oldest varieties in the world.

Blue Lagoon, gorge and beach tour by boat and 4x4 in Akamas

On this trip, you'll explore the Akamas peninsula by land and sea. And, rather than your typical coach set-up, you'll be in a 4x4 vehicle. The area is known for its natural beauty, so you're in for a real treat. Your day begins at Avakas Gorge, perhaps Cyprus' most impressive natural wonder, with a half-hour walk through its deep canyon with sheer walls of limestone that form a natural, narrow tunnel.
