Embark on your first hike of the day, a 4.2km return hike that weaves through fascinating rock formations, including the Grand Canyon and Silent Street. You will arrive at the Pinnacle, one of the most iconic destinations in the park. This famous jagged cliff face is quite the site and there will be plenty of time to soak up the views and capture some amazing photos. You will return to refuel with a healthy and filling lunch before heading off to Mackenzie Falls. It’s a steep 2km trail but you will be rewarded with of one of Victoria’s largest and most beautiful waterfalls. Your next stop is the picturesque Boroka Lookout before you return to the delightful tourist village of Halls Gap where your guide will reveal one of the local kangaroo’s favourite hangout spots.

Escape the hustle and bustle of Melbourne on a small group eco-tour to the Grampians National Park, and discover a nature lover’s paradise. Depart Melbourne and travel through the western plains of Victoria on route to historic Ballarat, a boom town of the 1850s following the widespread discovery of gold. Learn the history of the region over morning tea at the infamous Eureka Rebellion site. Continue through the picturesque western volcanic plains, and pass through the town of Moyston, the birthplace of Australian Rules Football. Arrive at the foot of the Grampians Range (Gariwerd in the local aboriginal language), and take a short walk to Silverband Falls. Then, head to Halls Gap for lunch. Keep a look out for kangaroos and abundant birdlife that can be seen in the main street. After lunch, go to the Wonderland car park to take a walk through the Grand Canyon and marvel at the rock formations. See high rising rock walls, crisscrossed with layering and fault lines that showcase the area’s unique geology. Next, visit the majestic surrounds of MacKenzie Falls, and watch the water cascade down the rocks in a gorge surrounded by eucalyptus forest. Walk the Bluff trail along the top of the cliffs for panoramic views of the falls, or journey downstairs to the base of the steep gorge. Another stunning photo opportunity awaits at Reeds Lookout, a vantage point that overlooks the towering Stringybark Forest and Victoria Valley. Your next port of call is Boroka Lookout, where panoramic views of the surrounding region and town of Halls Gap await. Look further afield to Lake Bellfield and beyond. Make your way back to Halls Gap to spot some wild kangaroos before returning to Melbourne. Stop for dinner on route back to the city, and enjoy a stunning view of the illuminated city on your return home.

Travel over the Westgate Bridge as you head past the old major gold mining town of Ballarat to western Victoria stopping in the country town of Beaufort for morning tea. Pass through the town of Arrarat before getting the first glimpse of the Grampians as they come into view from what appears to be from nowhere. Stop at the Brambuk Cultural and Information Center where you’ll learn about the six seasons of the Grampians and the connection the local indigenous have had with the land for thousands of years Continue to the only town inside the park Halls Gap, where guests can purchase lunch from one of the local cafes. Following lunch head into the mountains to Boroka Lookout that overlooks the Western Plains of Victoria and the Mt William, Wonderland and Serra Ranges. Next, stretch your legs with an easy bush walk to the geological icon of the Grampians; The Jaws of Death/Balconies where you are rewarded with great views over Victoria Valley. After the walk, reboard the bus and descend the Mt Difficult Range to Mackenzie Falls. Climb the stairs to the bottom of the falls and take in the natural beauty of the falls and surrounding bush land. As you make your way back to Melbourne, your guide will make sure you get some time to view large mobs of kangaroos that call the Grampians home.

Depart Melbourne Central Business District and pass over the mighty Westgate Bridge as you make your way through the western suburbs of the city towards western Victoria. Journey through the Victorian goldfields of the 1850s and take a short break in the quaint country town of Beaufort for morning tea.  Approach Grampians National Park and get an appreciation of what makes the giant mountain range so spectacular as it appears from the surrounding flat plains. Marvel at Mt. William as you get your first glimpse of the park, and then go to the Brambuk Aboriginal Culture Center to learn about the art, heritage and 6 seasons of the Grampians as described by the indigenous people. Discover an abundance of kangaroos resting in the areas around the center. Next, make your way into the heart of the park, and enter the small township of Halls Gap. Enjoy the drive into the Mt. Difficult range. Take in the breathtaking views of the plains of western Victoria from Boroka Lookout, before walking to the geological icon of the Balconies, featured in the Japanese animation "Princess Mononoke." Continue to the base of the majestic Mackenzie Falls or Silverband Falls, and follow a series of more than 250 stairs to the bottom of the cascades to cool off and relax. As the sun begins to set, keep an eye out for large mobs of kangaroos that call the area home before your return journey to Melbourne.

Be incarcerated for the evening at Australia's home to the criminally insane: the famous J Ward Lunatic Asylum. Meet at J Ward, Girdlestone Street, Ararat in the evening and commence the tour with free museum access to explore the memorabilia of the past including straight jackets, electro shock therapy devices, and fascinating patient records. After exploring the museum, enjoy a guided ghost tour of approximately 2 hours through the home of notorious criminals such as Chopper Read, Gary Webb and William Wallace. Explore the governor's bathroom, the hangman's gallows, the original kitchen, the showerblock, the grave sites, the West Wing, the J Ward Block, and the exercise yards and grounds in search of the souls that still linger, and hear the terrifying stories of murdered inmates and prisoners buried in the grounds as you explore the property. Tours run every Friday and Saturday evening at 9:30 PM.

Day 1 - (L) Say goodbye to Melbourne for the next 2 days as you drive over the Westgate Bridge to the Great Ocean Road. Begin where the builders started construction in 1919, and wind your way along this iconic road with spectacular views the entire journey. Stop for morning tea shortly after you join the road before making your way to Memorial Arch (The Great Ocean Road Sign) for a cheeky snap underneath. Continue to wind along through several seaside townships along the way. Along this stretch, your guide will get you out of the bus and help you spot wild koalas and native bird life among the trees, before stopping for lunch in the town of Apollo Bay with time to relax on the main beach, or try out some super flavors of ice-cream! After lunch the road leaves the coastline, then you're immersed in the ancient Otway rainforest. Breath in the crisp fresh air as your guide takes you on a guided walk through this magical wonderland. A little further along the road, you'll meet the ocean again on the Shipwreck Coast.  Marvel at the limestone monoliths known as the 12 Apostles and the rugged coastline that formed them. Hear the story of Loch Ard, and step down into this remote and isolated beach gorge that's been carved over one hundred years of erosion. A little further down the coast you will see the remains of London Bridge before driving into the heart of the Grampians National Park for your night's accommodation. Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation before driving into the mountain ranges that form this spectacular national park. Be captured with panoramic vistas at every possible view point starting with Borkoa. Lookout as you look over the western plains of Victoria and down on your night's accommodation. Make your way to the geological icon of the Balconies for views into the Victoria Valley and to the most southern tip of the park. Walk down a series of over 250 stairs to the base of the majestic Mackenzie falls before learning about the rich Aboriginal culture of the Grampians (Gariwerd) at Brambuk Cultural Center. After stopping for lunch in Halls Gap, begin the journey back to Melbourne for a late afternoon arrival.

This was by far my favourite tour so far since being in Victoria. Lots of beautiful views with walks suitable for all levels of fitness. Our tour guide Raquel was amazing! Full of fun facts, knowledge, wit with a great soundtrack for the road.
