  • Cancun: Chichen Itza, Ik Kil Cenote, & Valladolid with Lunch

    1. Cancun: Chichen Itza, Ik Kil Cenote, & Valladolid with Lunch

Depart for the archaeological site of Chichen Itza between 07:10 AM and 08:10 AM and prepare yourself for a 2.5-hour historical tour of the most famous of the ancient cities of the Yucatec Maya. Named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2007, Chichen Itza was once one of the largest cities of the Mayan civilization and thought to be one of the most mystical. See the stunning pyramid Temple of Kukulkan and marvel at the row of columns in the Temple of a Thousand Warriors. Look at the observatory temple of "El Caracol" and continue to highlights such as the sacrificial pit of the Great Ball Court, where the ancient ball game of "pok-ta-pok" was played. Enjoy some free time to explore on your own. Then, take a refreshing swim in the cenote of Ik-Kil and experience an underground lake on one of the subterranean river systems sacred to the Mayans. Enjoy lunch before d...

Carlos and Jose did a good job! The drive going and coming back was smooth. Carlos is knowledgeable about history and culture. He always managed to get the group going and kept our group ahead of the other tour buses so we’re not clumped with a big crowd of other travelers The first stop was souvenir shops. For lunch a choice of pork or chicken tacos was included but you have to pay for beverages. We got bottled water and coconut juice for $10. I gave $20 but didn’t get the change… it’s probably my fault because I didn’t understand the server. Inside the grounds of Chichen Itza is peppered with vendors trying to haggle. The noise from some vendors is distracting when you’re trying to listen to the ground tour. The place is an archeological treasure. Vendors should have a designated areas only( my honest opinion only). In Cenote, like I said Carlos was great in getting us there before all the crowd. Yay!!

  • From Mérida: Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve Tour

    4. From Mérida: Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve Tour

Start the tour with pickup from your hotel in Mérida, journey to the amazing Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve to discover a jewel of the Yucatán Peninsula declared a wildlife refuge in 1979. Explore the primary site for pink flamingos wintering in the northern hemisphere and get up close to the magnificent birds in their natural habitat. Look for some of the other 300 species of native and migratory birds, along with reptiles, mammals and different plants. See large colonies of brilliantly colored flamingos feeding in the estuary, and take a boat ride through the mangrove forest that provides food and shelter for shrimp and other creatures. End with a delicious meal at a beach before the return journey to Mérida to get dropped off at your hotel.

This was an outstanding trip. Our driver and guide Wilbur was excellent. The time for the journey from Merida to Celestun was only about 1 hour and 20 minutes, although we were a little late getting going. The wildlife tour was truly sensational. We saw hundreds of flamingos, many other bird species (our guide pointed out we were especially lucky to see so many), and even two crocodiles. The tour goes through a narrow mangrove forest - quite stunning - insect repellant is important. There is a short hike also and a chance to swim in a spring fed pond. After the wildlife tour, we went to the beach where we had a perfectly reasonable lunch at a restaurant. The beach is very nice and we had plenty of time for a walk and a swim. Mainly due to the wildlife part, this is a great tour. It was pretty expensive compared to other tours we have done in Yucatan but definitely worth it.

  • From Mérida: Hacienda Mucuyché and Cenotes Tour

    6. From Mérida: Hacienda Mucuyché and Cenotes Tour

Discover the landscapes and cenotes of Hacienda Mucuyché, a former estate and plantation. Wander through the partially-restored buildings, and admire the Arabic and French-style architecture. Soak up the atmosphere in the dining room, the stables, the chapel, and the engine room. Change into your swimwear experience swimming in clear waters of this hacienda's cenotes. Jump into Cenote Carlota, surrounded by lush vegetation. Cool off in the Blue Cenote, a pool within a cave covered in stalactites. At the end of your tour, get dropped off back in Mérida.

Everything went like clockwork with the transportation. We waited a short amount of time to get a bilingual guided group. The tour was great and we learned a lot about Hacienda culture from Guil. This particular place has Cenotes that are connected (I was pleasantly surprised that it was more than a quick dip in the pool) and we traversed from the initial Cenote where we entered, through a cave passage, through a canal, into another Cenote which also had a very large, completely underground area with incredible stalactites and stalagmites. After spending some time in the underground area we returned to the second Cenote and went back to the start via a pathway. This was an incredible experience, much more than we initially expected. Our guide Guil was excellent, full of information about the Haciendas and Cenotes.

This was a fantastic tour and Mario was a very knowledgeable guide. Not only did he know everything you could think to ask about the Mayan culture and Chichen Itza site, he was also knowledgeable about other sites in the Mayan and Aztec world. He has many years of experience as a professional guide and a true passion for this subject and for others seeking to understand a different culture. Sure, you can get a cheaper experience, but it will be more like a taxi ride rather than a tour. He was there to pick us up directly at our hotel with a nice vehicle including A/C. He also had beverages ready for us, reading material about the Mayans and would ask frequently if we needed a restroom break. He took us to a fantastic cenote and restaurant for lunch (not the typical tourist buffet). The benefit of a private tour is that you run on your own schedule, no rushing in the crowds and it's completely worry free as he takes care of all the tolls, tickets and logistics.

Our guide Guil was excellent, full of information about the Haciendas and Cenotes.

The drive victor was great and the guide Carlos was awesome and made the car drive there and back entertaining, along with lots of info on the Mayan culture and communities that are active today.

Excellent, unforgettable, learn about other cultures, very nice experience

Very beautiful place, full of sporting activities to do. For all ages.
