  • From Reykjavik: Snæfellsnes Peninsula Full-Day Tour

    1. From Reykjavik: Snæfellsnes Peninsula Full-Day Tour

Depart Reykjavik and head to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to experience Iceland's diverse natural beauty in a single area. Take in the dramatic landscape of volcanic peaks, sea cliffs, golden beaches and sparkling fjords. Visit charming fishing villages, such as Grundarfjordur, Arnarstapi and Hellnar. Admire the spectacular mountains and volcanic craters, including Kirkjufell and Ljósufjöll. Cast your eyes on the black sand beach at Djúpalónssandur, see the majestic glacier of Snæfellsjökull. Tour at a leisurely pace and experience the magnificent scenery of the peninsula at ease. The 10-hour tour takes in a variety of landscapes in a compact region, immortalized by Jules Verne in his book, "Journey to the Centre of the Earth."

This was a fantastic tour. You spend a lot of time on the road but you get to see so much in just one day. The landscapes are awe-inspiring as are the tales that accompany them. Peter, the guide, told us histories, myths, and legends along the way. Mount Kirkjufell is breathtaking. My best photos of the trip came from this place.

  • Snaefellsnes Peninsula Full-Day Trip

    2. Snaefellsnes Peninsula Full-Day Trip

During this full-day (10-hour) excursion from Reykjavik you’ll travel along the Snæfellsnes peninsula and through the Snæfellsjökull National Park. Stop to enjoy the small village of Arnarstapi and take a walk through the rugged and dramatic landscape by the shore. Visit the the gorgeous black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur, see the rock formations and hear stories about famous shipwrecks off the coast. Enjoy the view of the world famous triangular mountain Kirkjufell, which was used to depict the Arrowhead Mountain in the series Game of Thrones.  With some additional stops along the route you’ll get a good overall sense of the magical influence of the Snæfellsjökull glacier.

I gave 4 stars because of waiting for 30 minutes for picking up. I should be there at 7:30, the tour starts at 8 and bus arrived on time. However, the guide was excellent and he explained us everything and showed lots of things.

  • Small-Group Snaefellsnes National Park Tour

    3. Small-Group Snaefellsnes National Park Tour

Spend the day in Snæfellsnes National Park, described as “Iceland in Miniature,” on a full-day tour from Reykjavik. Following your transfer from the city center, travel along the coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and Snæfellsnes Glacier, enjoying mountain scenery on one side, and the unique Breiðafjörður beach on the other. Locals call it the "Golden Beach" as it is one of the only beaches in Iceland that is not made of black sand. Pass small towns and fishing villages, including the hamlets of Arnarstapi and Hellnar, and see spectacular birds nesting in cliffs by the sea. Look out for other wildlife, including - if you are lucky - seals! End in the center of the park at the mighty Snæfellsjökull volcano glacier, made famous by Jules Verne in “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” On the north side of the peninsula you will see the famous church-shaped Kirkjufell Mountain, with the ne...
