  • Reykjavik: Silver Circle, Canyon Baths, and Waterfalls Tour

    1. Reykjavik: Silver Circle, Canyon Baths, and Waterfalls Tour

Start in Reykjavik and head to Borgarnes, the gateway to West Iceland. Make your first stop at Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe, which is so strong that it provides hot water and power for the locals for miles around. Take in the sight from several viewing platforms and see how the water stretches for nearly a kilometer over ancient lava fields, with meltwater from the Langjokull glacier pouring into the Hvita river. Just a few yards away is Barnafoss, also known as “the waterfall of the children,” named after the tragic tale of two local children. Your next stop is Husafell, a breathtaking woodland oasis and a historical site with traditional turf houses and even some “elf huts” to delight the children, too. See intriguing works by local art...

I did this experience on the 12th September. The driver was wonderful, he was a great communicator, very helpful and happy to answer any questions. I learned a lot about the history of the area. The van had USB ports and wifi and was very comfortable. The tour was similar as a lot of others, you some of the many waterfalls of Iceland. What made it special was the visit to Husafell, the original strongman stone and the hot pools nearby.

The lava tunnel was awe inspiring, with ice forming stalagmites from the overhead drip. The lava formations within the tunnel, were amazing and the guide was extremely informative about the geology of the formation of the tunnel. The waterfalls were breathtaking, with the glacier runoff providing a blue hue to the falls, contrasting the rest of the river they flowed into.
