Depart Bilbao and head for Vitoria-Gasteiz to explore the capital city of the Basque Country. Take a guided walking tour through the center to see the cathedral, parliament and historical monuments of Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. Discover a medieval quarter in Plaza del Machete and admire the Church of San Miguel. Go to the Salinas de Añana salt flats and learn the history of the landscape. Continue to Orduña village and enjoy lunch at a typical restaurant in the medieval village of Balmaseda. Venture through the Ayala Valley and the mining area of Bizkaia (Biscay) to reach the coast at Santurtzi and Portugalete, where you will cross the Vizcaya Bridge to Getxo.
Fabulous restaurant near Biskia In an old Nun convent. I bet of over sell on the “see” part of the trip. Mainly interior mountain areas.
After being picked up at your hotel at around 9 AM, head to Añana Salt Valley, where you will learn everything about the traditional way of producing the salt or 'white gold' from local experts. Discover how the same production process and tools have been used for centuries. The visit lasts around 1.5 hours. Later, explore Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque autonomic region. Enjoy lunch there then continue your sightseeing tour through the medieval old town which sits on top of a hill. The total visit time is around 2 hours. At around 5 PM head back to San Sebastian where you will be dropped off at your hotel.

This tour packs a lot in, and the in between coach travel bits are just as interesting. Our guide was excellent , dealing proficiently with a dual Spanish and English understanding audience. Pick up was as notified - all comms in advance were clear and in good time. The coach was modern and we felt safe on the many winding mountain roads. To pack in everything was a feat in itself - Vitoria quick tour, Salt springs tour, Quick Ordana stop, lunch in a beautiful converted nunnery, and crossing the Vizcaya Transporter bridge. Highly recommended
