Oxford: Official “Haunted Oxford” Ghost Tour

1. Oxford: Official “Haunted Oxford” Ghost Tour

Discover all the key haunted places in and around Oxford on a nighttime walking tour loosely based on the book 'Haunted Oxford' by local author Rob Walters, just one of the experienced and talented Guides. Experience the best way to 'see' Oxford’s ghosts on a route that takes you around the heart of central Oxford and its University. Meet your guide and get whisked away into the night, starting on the corner of Turl Street and Broad Street, which was once the city ditch and site of terrible murders and religious persecution. Learn about the history of Oxford and hear many splendidly spooky stories dating back to Danish Viking times. Walk past Oxford University, Radcliffe Square, and peer into the Old Schools Quadrangle - of Harry Potter fame. Admire the gorgeous and imposing architecture of Oxford and feel the history in the walls, which are well preserved and represent every period of architecture from Medieval through Classical to modern.  Look up at the Bridge of Sighs, so-called as it is reminiscent of the one at Venice which led prisoners to their doom. Wind down the ancient walled lane to New College, built in the late 1300s, and see its dark gates against the gloom.

What people are saying about University of Oxford

Very enjoyable evening tour. There were 20 of us o the walk and the Guide explained the H&S rules regarding walking Oxford at night and to be aware of cyclists who can sweep out of side roads. The Guide was very knowledgable and explained the History of Oxford and how the Ghost stories tied in. She made the stories very interesting and enjoyable and the 2 hrs soon passed. we were fortunate that we had fine weather for the tour I would imagine that it would be quite q bit different should it rain. We visited sites that you would not usually go to - small side roads that had interesting stories . Have now purchased a book that tells the stories. Only negative was background noise from such as motor bikes and Police sirens. Guide would stop till the noise had passed. Recommend that if you have hearing problems to keep in the front of the lineup when the Guide is telling the stories.

Really enjoyed the ghost walk. The guide was prompt and took us through quiet streets to the outside of university buildings. She told us some interesting ‘ghostly tales’ which she delivered in an engaging manner. We were absorbed in her retelling. It was well done.

Hannah was excellent. Lovely to see the city at night, until we heard the ghost stories! Hannah had fantastic knowledge of the city college history. Highly recommended.

She did a wonderful job telling us ghost stories on our walk about Oxford. And bonus we found some new pubs to try.

The tour was a fun tour. Hannah was great. We enjoyed it!
