On day 1, following an early pick-up from your hotel or accommodation in Douz, meet your Bedouin cameleers and begin your camel trek. Explore the history of Tunisia on this half-day tour to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said from Tunis. First you’ll visit Carthage, founded in 814 B.C. Day 01 : Pick up from your place of residence and departure to El Jem, visit of its coliseum , measuring 148 meters long, 122 wide and 36 meters high, served during two centuries. Its capacity estimated at 35,000 spectators and its imposing size class unquestionably among the largest amphitheatres in the world. This building dating from the third century, shows the greatness of the Roman Empire. Continuation to Matmata located at 40 km west of Gabes, on a mountainside, it is a Berber village of 1800 inhabitants, at an altitude of 600 meters. The name Matmata came from a Berber tribe originating from Morocco, descendant of the Temzit. Matmata is very well known for its troglodyts houses. Troglodyte homes are homes built into the ground as a way to escape the heat of the summer sun, creating their own natural air conditioning. As you walk around on the surface of the ground, you can peer down into these craters, which are the courtyards of these homes. Some of the courtyards have sheer drops of up to 30 feet deep. These courtyards have rooms cut into the ground where residents live. Depart Hammamet for Sidi Bou Said, a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated on the Gulf of Tunis. Discover this world-famous location, said to reflect the delicacy of its inhabitants through its architecture.  The village boasts an almost-perfect balance between its two symbolic colors, blue and white. The small Bordj, which sheltered the Mourabitounes in the 9th century, has stretched over the centuries to be transformed into a village sheltering the noblemen of Tunisia. Discover the Palace nejma ezahra, the luxurious residence that Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger built at the beginning of the 20th century. Between its paintings and musical instruments from the 20s and 30s, it is a masterpiece in the true sense of the word Visit Dar Alaïa; situated at the peak of the hill of the mythical village of Sidi Bou Saïd, it is an exhibition-tribute to the great Tunisian couturier Ezzedine alai. Depart then to visit Carthage and discover its exciting story through the ruins and a visit to the American Cemetery. The cemetery consists of a few acres of grass, flowers, and a wide variety of century-old trees that are the resting place of the 3,000 soldiers who gave their lives during the Second World War.
