Full description

Explore the ancient Mayan ruins of Muyil and the Sian Kaan Nature Reserve on a half-day tour from Tulum. You will encounter a variety of birds, plants, and animals before wandering through the ruins to discover the incredible history of this ancient civilization.

After being picked up from Tulum you will be transferred to the Sian Kaan Nature Reserve. Walk through this inspiring eco-preserve to the highest point in the reserve and gaze out at an unblemished jungle filled with hundreds of species of birds, plants, and animal life.

Enjoy a small hike before a boat ride through the trading canals of the ancient Maya civilization and visit the Maya temple of Xlapak. You will see the detailed facades of these old ruins, located at the bottom of the river valley.

Next, float back down through the canals between mangroves and gently make your way back out into the crystal-clear waters around the peninsula. Onboard, enjoy an assortment of Mexican snacks and lunch as the sun sets over this beautiful landscape.

Experience the very best of this region. The food, the culture, the nature, and a bit of relaxation make this a perfect day trip from your home base in Playa del Carmen.

Our experience was awesome. My favorite part of the tour was Alondra. She was incredibly knowledgeable about as aspects of Mayan life and ancient history related to that part of the world. She was energetic, funny, and charismatic. Her partner Arturo was also very helpful throughout the trip but honestly Alondra made the day so fun. I would take the tour again just to hang out with her. The tour of the ruins was great but the lazy river was a highlight for my and my lady. Highly recommend this tour. Especially since it wasn't too far away from Tulum beach.

We went on this experience on Christmas day and overall had a really good time. Claudio was our guide and he was the most enthusiastic and fun person. You could tell that he is really passionate about nature and he did a great job answering all our questions and teaching us about everything we encountered. Walking through the jungle was a fun experience, even through the rain, and Claudio even brought us to a tree tower that we were able to climb and see some cool views from up top. The only thing that was challenging was the float down Sian Kaan. We opted to stay in the boat thinking that we would be able to slowly float along and take pictures of the people who wanted to float. We weren't able to do that and had to wait on the other side in the rain until all the floaters finally got there. There was also no adequate places to really change into your swimsuits (so wear your suits under your clothes) and we didn't eat until the end of the day so it was a long day without eating.

The tour was great! The manageable group size (there were seven of us) was perfect, you get the feeling of being able to escape from mass tourism. First we went to the ruins of Muyil. Already on the way there we were able to learn a lot about the flora and fauna of Yucatán from our guide Luigi. Arrived on site we learned exciting things about the culture of the Maya. The highlight was the subsequent visit to Sian Ka'an and floating between the mangroves. If you are in Tulum, you simply have to experience it. In between we were provided with delicious biscuits and a fantastic lunch.
