Full description
Depart Tromsø and travel to a nearby ranch where you will have the chance to feed a herd of around 300 wild reindeer. Marvel as the friendly animals swarm around you and eat straight from your hands. Learn more about the Sami culture of the Arctic. They have been living and working on this land for centuries and have only recently invited guests to be part of their daily lives. Get invited inside a typical gamme (hut) and be served warm drinks and a traditional meal that has been cooked over the fire (vegetarian option available). Then, gather around the fire at a traditional Sami lavuu (tent) to listen to stories about their culture. Hear what it is like to live as a reindeer herder, and watch a performance of a traditional joik (song) before making your way back to Tromsø.

Recommended! Yes, you go there with (in my case) 2 full tour buses. But, it's so big there and there are 2 big tents where you can sit, so don't let that deter you from this activity. The reindeer are calm animals. It is a nice experience to feed them. You also have plenty of time to take beautiful pictures in the beautiful surroundings. There is a fire in the tents, where you can warm yourself up and drink something warm. I loved the reindeer stew. After lunch, a Sami explained the culture and history of the Sami. She also explained something about the reindeer and 3 joiks were sung. I thought it was a great experience! They are also friendly.

Finding pick up spot was easy, but the process of checking in was very disorganized and confusing. They should make it clear who to talk to for which tour, and the fact that multiple different tours go on the same bus. There was a bus from another company which had the sign that sounded more like this tour than the correct bus, so I almost got on that one with the lack of clear guidance at the site. Tour itself was good in the amount of time spent with reindeers and explanation and demonstration of Sami culture. Due to the larger size of the tour, waiting time between different events were quite long. It also felt too commercialized compared to more intimate tour I had in Finnish Lapland last year.

This trip was really amazing. well organised, great guides. we fed and had a great time with the reindeers out in the beautiful nature. it was cold, but warm clothes, food and drink were all included. we had the freedom to go in and out as we pleased, and there was a bonfire to keep us warm. The people working there were harming and helpful. Thank you for the experience! We will never forget this day.
