If I / we had been looking for a very long boat trip in the waters north of Tromsö this would have been a good activity. But we had bought a roller safari! More than 3 hours of boat travel in each direction gave less than an hour to wait and watch the whales. We got to see two different families of killer whales, but Captain so much wanted us to see humpback whales too, so he left the killer whales fairly quickly in both cases of contact (even though we passengers had said that killer whales would be the primary target!). And no, there were no humpback whales. The day before and the day after, the weather was brilliant and then you could certainly have sat on the flydeck and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, but there we had a little bad luck, so it was sitting inside the boat pretty much all the time.
