Tokyo is a fantastic place for food, but Sato enhances the food experience to another level! Sato opens his home to you to give you a true appreciation of Japanese culture as well as the deliciousness of Asian cuisine! His friendly and open personality puts you at ease from the moment you meet him. He’s willing to share his story and history which creates an atmosphere of trust. The class becomes more than just a cooking class, rather it’s cooking with friends! The absolute star attraction however is the food! We made Ramen and Gyozas which were just out of this world. Sato gives great, simple tips that you can take home with you. If food is something you love (and surely that’s why you’re coming to Tokyo?), an evening with Sato is highly recommend! I met my guide at the designated meeting place near the station. She was early so we had extra time to get acquainted. I was the only on the tour so Kazumi was very flexible to my interests. She was informative, engaging, and warm - all along expressing her genuine love for the city and showing non-locals the insiders’ way around the market. She was prepared with literature, graphics and pictures. We had fantastic treats - exceptional quality of ingredients. I recommend this tour with Kazumi. One small recommendation: I would suggest shifting the tour time slightly to bridge the lunch time opening of some establishments in order to timely spread the tastings before, during, and after the lunch period.
What a nice way to start the day! We had a very interesting morning learning about Tsukiji market, Japanese history and food culture. It's a good way to have a feel of the market and the stalls without being completely clueless in a sea of options. Our guide, Akiko, was very sweet and tried her very best to answer our questions and explain about the different food and places we visited. She was definitely a highlight of the tour and made us feel very welcome in Japan. Sometimes our guide's English language knowledge wasn't enough to answer all our questions but she made the biggest effort to help.
Satoru-san was a great teacher who was happy to share his life story and why cooking is so important to him, as well as answering our questions and making fun conversation in the appropriate moments. Also, it was very interesting to visit a local's home and see what delicious Japanese food can be made at home! We didn't only watched the cooking but also participated in the process, chopping, seasoning, prepping, and so on, while learning about the ingredients, the recipe and their place in Japanese cooking, making it all the more fun.
It was one of the most personable and best tours I’ve had. Norma went above and beyond to bring us to our food locations, making sure things were running smoothly, and even invited us to celebrate NYE with her! We had wonderful companions on this tour as well, and we all had good laughs and conversation. Really nothing bad to say about this, other than wishing there was more special New Years food stuffs!
