Full description
At 3,420 feet (1,021 meters) above sea level, the summit of the Tijuca Mountain in Rio de Janeiro is the highest point of the Tijuca National Park. On this 5-hour tour, you will cross most of the urban forest by car, before hiking to the top of the mountain, ending with a climb up the 117-step stairway that was carved out of solid gneiss rock more than 100 years ago for a visiting European king. To reach the start of the trail you will cross almost all of Tijuca Forest by car, passing various waterfalls and scenic views to observe the city from a range of perspectives. Stop off in São Conrado for a picture postcard photo opportunity. You will also get the chance to visit the Taunay Waterfall, the highest cascade in the forest. At Solitude Dam, stop to watch the birds and fish. Then, hike past scenic viewpoints, such as Emperor’s Table, Chinese Viewpoint, and Monkey's Waterfall. At the summit of Tijuca, you will be rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro, providing the perfect opportunity to find your bearings in this complicated city!

Fantastic hike to the Tijuca peak. I highly recommend this activity to any visitors to Rio. We are over 60 and not very fit but the walk is managed well by the guide with rest/water breaks. The car takes you pretty high up and stops by some amazing waterfall and scenery views before you continue on foot to the top. Recommend carrying some water and snacks.

Daniel took my girlfriend and I on a hike through Tijuca forest that ended with an amazing view of rio from all sides. He picked us up from our hotel, took us to the parks HQ, taught us about the park, and guided us along our hike. He speaks very good English and is knowledgeable about Tijuca forest. Couldn't have asked for a better guide

Amanda was our tour guide for the morning and she was fab. She has spent a lot of time in the Tijuca rainforest so knew the area really well. The trek was great fun, though steep at times! Unfortunately we missed out on some amazing views due to and weather but Amanda took us to another look-out point which was amazing. I'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone who visits Rio, just check the weather forecast before booking!
