Full description
Depart Thessaloniki in the morning and journey to the amazing monasteries' complex of Meteora to visit 2 of the 6 holy monasteries, depending on their operating schedule. Built on immense natural pillars and rounded boulders that dominate the area, the monasteries date back to the 14th century, following settlement by monks as far back as the 11th century. Get access to holy sites such as the women's Monastery of Agios Stefanos with its impressive wood-carved iconostasis, or visit the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, perched on the top of a rocky precipice over 400 meters high. Alternatively, discover the tower of the old preserved net at the Monastery of Varlaam, or explore the largest of the monasteries at the Monastery of Great Meteoron, consecrated in honor of the Transfiguration of Christ. Get panoramic views of these incredible structures and the stunning landscape. Enjoy a traditional Greek lunch in Kastraki, near the city of Kalampaka, before heading back to Thessaloniki.

This tour was organized by the local partners Ammon express. It was very well organized and punctual. Our guide was Dimitris, if you can try to get him as your guide. He is simply awesome!! He’s not only knowledgeable about the local sites but he’s also a philosopher at heart. We had amazing conversations throughout the journey. The drive to meteora itself is very beautiful, we also drove passed Mount Olympus. This is was best tour of my trip, as the scenic view of meteora itself is just simply breathtaking and mesmerizing! We visited two monasteries, for women it’s recommended not to wear pants and cover their shoulders and knees. At the end we had a delicious lunch at the village of kalambaka. I highly recommend their lamb chops This entire trip was something definitely worth viewing and a must to do!!

The trip was simply Amazing. Our tourist guide Mr. Lazaros was very very pleasent, very well prepared for the trip and on top all of that a walking encyclopedia, he represented his home town and his country in the best light possible. I would definitly return again and this time ask for Mr. Lazaros specifically.

Great tour to a fantastic destination. Sure, the trip is a little long, but it is very much worth it. Our tour guide Lazarous gave us a lot of information on the way there, during our time at Meteora we were free to roam around at our own pace, while our guide was available for questions. We visited two monasteries, as well as a viewpoint which commanded a view of five of the six monasteries still in operation. The lunch place at Kastraki is (as others have mentioned) somewhat expensive, but you are not in any way obligated to have lunch there. You can go into town on your own, or even hike back up the road. Right behind the restaurant (marked with a sign) there is also a little trail which loops around the base of the foothills and ends where a series of caves in the rockface begin. Can recommend doing this for those who don't want to spend a whole our on lunch. We were very pleased with the punctuality and professionality of the organization. A great trip in all!
