Full description

After a pre-sunrise departure from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, drive through the rolling hills of the Judean desert. At 5:30 AM, you’ll arrive at Masada, a set of mountaintop fortifications that date back to the 1st century BCE. Hike to peak to watch the sunrise from the summit, painting the surrounding valleys in rich hues. Continue to the En Gedi Nature Reserve, which covers an astounding 3,500 acres. A massive oasis in the desert, it includes vast streams and rivers that spill out from impressive waterfalls. Amble through the mountainous terrain, marvelling at the lush greenery in the heart of the desert. To cap things off, head to the Dead Sea, where you’ll have 1.5 hours to relax. Coat yourself in its iconic black mud, famed for its restorative qualities, and float in the highly saline water. After your time at the lowest point on earth, you’ll head back to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

great trip!! Sunrise in Masada and the view is beautiful!! The path is really strenuous but doable. Ein Gedi also has something, but you still have to be more hiking/climbing, and just after Masada another challenge. The cool down and mud cure afterwards in the Dead Sea is just the right thing. All goals are fairly tight in time. We found that at least an hour more time should be planned everywhere. Were quite in time stress. Especially in a gedi.

Three highlights in one day that can only be recommended. We were picked up on time and, as described, drove to Masada National Park at sunrise. As you can read from the other reviews, the ascent should not be underestimated, but it is definitely worth it. You should plan 50 - 60 minutes with breaks and leisurely steps. Afterwards, due to the nightly storm and clean-up work, we drove first to the Dead Sea and then to the En Gedi Oasis. In terms of time, 20-30 minutes more in Masada and En Gedi would have been nice, but even so we were able to gather a lot of impressions and can only recommend this excursion for early risers!

The communication about where exactly the bus is going to be etc. was not very clear so that ended up costing a lot of time. The fact that we only got the chance to buy lunch at the dead sea was also pretty damn ridiculous because by the time I got my lunch and finished eating I had 30 minutes to get changed get in the Dead Sea put mud on myself and get showered [which obviously wasn't enough time to do anything I wanted to do)
