Meet your guide in front of Avlabari metro station at 8:30 AM and head off for Bakuriani ski resort, one of the best resorts in Georgia. The first stop is Bakuriani, where you will hop aboard the Kukushka, a special, mini train which navigates this lovely place. There are two trains and each of them includes two wagons, each with a carrying capacity of up to 23 people. Today, Borjomi-Bakuriani railway and the legendary "Kukushka" are on Georgia's cultural heritage list. The whole train journey is fantastic and peaceful. Bakuriani ski resort is situated 1,700 meters above sea level on the northern slope of Trialeti Range, at the foot of the breathtaking Caucasus Mountains. For skiers and snowboarders, there are 29 kilometers of slopes available and 15 lifts. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,740 and 2,702 meter. Due to the long winters of 4-5 months, the resort is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. It is also a superb venue for children to engage in winter sports and activities. The modern developed ski area, Didveli (1,861 meters), and the oldest ski area, Kokhta (2,155 meters), are the beauties of Bakuriani. Different ski routes cater to all levels of skiers and ensures maximum pleasure. Also, there are lots of hotels, hostels, family guest houses, restaurants, and cafes serving up healthy, local food. Head north from Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Highway, the only road connecting Georgia to Russia through the high Caucasus Mountains. First you'll visit Zhinvali Dam, a hydroelectric dam on the Aragvi River. Despite its artificial origins, the reservoir blends in with the surrounding environment perfectly and delights visitors with its turquoise waters. As you descend to the shores of the reservoir you will notice the ruins of a church from a settlement that was relocated out of the flooding area of the dam.   Next, visit Ananuri Fortress, known for its stunning panoramic views. It was built by the Dukes of Aragvi and its earliest parts date back to the 13th century. After this, you'll explore Gudauri, a ski resort located in the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range. The slopes of Gudauri are completely above the tree line. Discover the Treaty of Georgievsk Monument, built in 1983 to celebrate the bicentennial of the Treaty of Georgievsk and ongoing friendship between Georgia and Russia. Inside the monument is a large tile mural that spans the whole circumference of the structure and depicts scenes from Georgian history. Finally, you'll visit Gergeti Trinity Church. The church is located under Mount Kazbek, and served as a popular waypoint for travellers on the road connecting Russia and Georgia. At the end of the day, return to Tbilisi.

At 8:00AM, your driver and guide will meet you at your hotel/place of residence in Tbilisi. From here you will drive to the Katskhi pillar. Stunning and mysterious, this 40-meter high natural limestone monolith towers over the gorge of the Karshuna River. On top of the pillar, there is a monastery and reconstructed 8th-century church most likely built by the Stylite. There is only one inhabitant, monk Maxime who has been living in the monastery for over 25 years in solitude and silence. You will then continue onward to Chiatura, an industrial town founded in the late 1800s. In Soviet Georgia, the town was a center of manganese mining. To grasp a true feeling of the past, you can ride a communism-era cable car still used by the locals as a means of transport. This transport system has a dozen operating ropeway lines for passengers and two cargo lines for transporting manganese. The total length of the cableway exceeds 6,000 meters. Located between steep valleys and deep gorges Chiatura will leave an unforgettable impression on anyone visiting this off-the-beaten-track Georgian destination. After being picked up from your hotel at 8:00AM, your first stop will be the Ujarma fortress. It is believed that in the second half of the 5th century, the famous Vakhtang Gorgasali (founder of Tbilisi) erected numerous buildings in Ujarma and moved his residence there. In the 10th century, Ujarma was destroyed by the Arabian forces of Abul Kassim. Later on in the 13th century, the fortress was restored by King George III, where he arranged treasury. Moving on, your tour will continue through the Gombori Pass, which will see you drive to an altitude of 1,650 meters (5,414 feet). You will then go to the Bodbe Monastery, which is one of the most important religious sites in Georgia. Continuing your trip, you will venture toward Sighnaghi. Its charming cobblestone streets and alleys consist of restored original nouveau woodwork, and detailed facades give the town a romantic mystique. Billed the "City of Love", Sighnaghi is a popular wedding venue. The wedding chapel here was the first to operate around the clock, and put Sighnaghi on the map as a destination. Its marriage chapel now hosts ceremonies which take place at all hours of the day and night.

The Garmarjoba team did a great job putting together a fun and informative day trip to Kazbegi along the Georgia Military Highway including some great sights along the way! Our guide was super friendly and fun. We went in December, so had to change some plans because of deep snow, but he was quick to find alternatives for us and made sure we all had a great time. The organizers were also extremely responsive and helpful. You get so much for your money on this trip! Highly recommended.

Sophia was a fantastic guide. She was very knowledgeable and engaging. She managed our small group of five very well. We got a good feel for the history of Tbilisi and Georgia. It was a great way to see such a magnificent city laden with a rich history.
