Day 1: Hobart to Strahan The journey through the Western Wilds starts by taking you to the picturesque harborside village of Strahan on the West Coast. At Mt Field NP, walk among some of the world’s tallest flowering trees and admire the wonderful Russell Falls. Later, stop at Lake St. Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, and the wild Franklin-Gordon NP. For the last stop before Strahan, visit Queenstown for a glimpse of Tassie’s mining history. Day 2: Wild West Coast In the untouched wilderness of Tasmania’s West Coast, explore the shifting sands of Henty Dunes. Then continue into the Tarkine Rainforest and walk to Tasmania’s highest waterfall — Montezuma Falls. Or you can choose to join the world-famous Gordon River Cruise (optional, at your own expense). Return to your accommodation in Strahan in the evening. Day 3: Cradle Mountain to Launceston Discover the World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where you can choose a walk to suit you. Stroll around Dove Lake or challenge yourself with a hike to Marion’s Lookout. Afterward, take a short drive through Sheffield, the ‘town of murals’ and then to Launceston where you will spend the night. Day 4: Launceston to Bicheno Today make your way to the East Coast and the beautiful Bay of Fires. If the conditions are right, this is the perfect place for a swim or simply wander along one of the world's most stunning beaches. This evening you may choose to join a viewing experience of the Little Penguins (optional at your own expense and seasonal). Spend the night in Bicheno. Day 5: Freycinet National Park to Hobart An early start means you are the first to the Wineglass Bay lookout, beating the crowds and the heat for that postcard photo. Relax on the secluded beach or choose the more challenging Mount Amos or a beach walk. Continue your journey south passing the coastal villages of Swansea and Orford before arriving at your accommodation in Hobart. Day 6: Bruny Island Journey south of Hobart to Kettering and board the vehicular ferry to cross the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to North Bruny Island. On the island, stop at "The Neck", home to the Truganini Lookout and its spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Bruny Island coastline. Also, visit South Bruny Island and Adventure Bay- hike to Fluted Cape, or a more relaxed Grass Point. Look for some local wildlife (including the white Bennetts wallabies), and sample some fresh local produce including oysters and cheese before returning to your accommodation in Hobart. Day 7: Tasman Peninsula Start with a visit to Australia’s best-preserved colonial village, Richmond, before heading south to explore the incredible coastline of Tasman National Park with a number of stops at geological formations like Tasman Arch. Join a guided walk from Remarkable Cave to Crescent Bay, or, visit Port Arthur Historic Site to gain insights into Tasmania's ruthless convict history, at your own expense.
