Full description

Begin your journey by boarding a bus with your knowledgeable tour leader. This will take you approximately 1,900 meters (about 6,233 feet) up Mount Etna, where you will then switch to jeeps in order to get within a safe distance of the main crater area at 3,000 meters (about 9,840 feet) elevation.

During your ascent, you’ll be escorted by licensed guides of the CAI - Italian Alpine Club.

Mount Etna is an active volcano on the east coast of Sicily, and the tallest active volcano in Europe, standing at 3,350 meters (about 10,990 feet).

It’s also one of the most active volcanoes in the world and in an almost constant state of activity since its first eruption about half a million years ago.

After reaching the highest authorized area, stop to experience a stunning sunset as the fading sun’s colors cover the volcano, the Valley of the Bove, and all of the expansive surroundings.

Following the sunset, return by jeep to 1,900 meters, at which point it will be time for dinner (cost not included) in a local restaurant to finish off the evening.

We met at the bus station but there was no representative on arrival or any sign indicating you were in the right place. We had to keep asking various coach drivers and showing them out confirmation and they just shrugged as though they’d never heard of GetYourGuide. That part was quite stressful. I was travelling with 2 children aged 13 and 15. The coach journey is long, 1.5 hours there and same back, leaving at 3.30’pm, returning 11.30 pm. Luckily we managed to book a taxi at 11.30 pm to take us back to our hotel. Our guide was very good. We did 2 walks at various stages up the volcano lasting around 20 mins each, where you see the smoking craters then back to the main area where we had dinner. It was a great trip but I wouldn’t do it again.

I recommend this excursion, easy with little walking, to admire a magnificent sunset at 3000m in height. Stunning view of 2 summit craters. We were lucky to come across a guide who speaks French, who gave us precise and interesting explanations about the life of the volcano. Small flats; we couldn't go beyond 3000m because it was too dangerous with the recent eruption and we depended a lot on the rest of the group (return to Taormina late because of the restaurant's high traffic).

Technology, landscape and view were great. The guides from SAT were super committed and took care of us. Unfortunately, the alpine guide on the mountain only spoke Italian. That's why I didn't understand anything anymore. The food was good and affordable. Of the 9 hours we spent about 6-7 in buses. A little more time on the “summit” would be appropriate. I didn't have time to take any more photos after the meal. But it was worth it for the view.
