  • Taipei: Taroko Gorge Full-Day Tour

    1. Taipei: Taroko Gorge Full-Day Tour

One of Asia’s 7 wonders, Taroko Gorge is a must-see for visitors to Taipei. The stunning Gorge features marble cliffs, deep-winding tunnels, and the enchanting Liwu River flowing through the landscape. Your excursion begins from Taipei where you'll travel by train to Hualien. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll be taken on a drive along a 12-mile stretch of highway built into the mesmerizing marble cliffs that rise high above the rushing Liwu River. There are spectacular views of the marble walls and the winding river that runs through the deep Taroko Gorge. The Tunnel of Nine Turns is considered as the most scenic section of Taroko Gorge, which has reopened in 2019 after years of repair work. Along the trail, you can see the meander running through the deep and spectacular canyons from high above. Also, you can have a closer look at the faults and folds of the sheer marble cliffs, as well as ...

The time I travelled was during outbreak of Coronavirus. Even though there were only 2 persons left for the tour, the tour still operated. This is very impressive. Overall I like the scenary of Taroko very much. Even though we had 15 minutes at Shakadang trail, but we got enough time for other stops.

He facilitated our entire day to make sure it went smoothly and got us to all the places of interest before the sun set. A whole day of driving and hiking did not faze him and I think we were more tired than he was, somehow. Definitely will recommend him to my friends and family when they visit Taipei.

With a full 8-hr tour it could be a hit or a miss & I'm glad to have Josh Rice as my private guide. He's such a FUN guy to be around so, it was a bonus for the entire trip! He showed up on time, attentive with the details and resourceful (i.e. packed an extra umbrella, powerbank for my mobile, even brought his camera since he knows I'm into photography). There were some missed because apparently he hasn't done this tour before and he doesn't speaks Mandarin - whereas the places we visited were in rural areas so Mandarin speaking guide should be mandatory. But I really appreciated the effort he made by doing a thorough research and kept me well informed on the options l have. He also brought a local friend along for ease of communications. All in all it was a sucessfull day!

The last coal mine closed in 1997, many of the residents moved out, and these towns became silent and desolated. Even though the golden age may be long gone, Pingxi becomes well-known for being the film location of some movies and TV commercials. Sky Lantern launch in Taiwan originates from Shifen in Pingxi District. Nowadays, the lanterns are used as symbols of peace and good fortune, the world-renowned Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is a ...
