With a full 8-hr tour it could be a hit or a miss & I'm glad to have Josh Rice as my private guide. He's such a FUN guy to be around so, it was a bonus for the entire trip! He showed up on time, attentive with the details and resourceful (i.e. packed an extra umbrella, powerbank for my mobile, even brought his camera since he knows I'm into photography). There were some missed because apparently he hasn't done this tour before and he doesn't speaks Mandarin - whereas the places we visited were in rural areas so Mandarin speaking guide should be mandatory. But I really appreciated the effort he made by doing a thorough research and kept me well informed on the options l have. He also brought a local friend along for ease of communications. All in all it was a sucessfull day!

Meet your tour guide at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, then enjoy a ride to the suburban area and start a nostalgic tour of Taipei. There are three branch railway lines still operating in Taiwan: Pingxi Line in Taipei, Neiwan Line in Hsinchu, and Jiji Line in Nantou. As time goes by, these three branch lines have turned into tourist railway lines. Pingxi is one of these small towns that were once prosperous due to the coal mining industry in the 1960s. The last coal mine closed in 1997, many of the residents moved out, and these towns became silent and desolated. Even though the golden age may be long gone, Pingxi becomes well-known for being the film location of some movies and TV commercials. Sky Lantern launch in Taiwan originates from Shifen in Pingxi District. Nowadays, the lanterns are used as symbols of peace and good fortune, the world-renowned Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is a ...

This tour is an excellent introduction to Taiwan. It covers the highlights while you travel in comfort and stay in luxurious hotels. The trip is well planned and thought out to the smallest detail. Booking was easy, questions answered fully in a timely manner. Everything was confirmed right from the start. We even got a call the night before to remind us of our hotel pick up. Each day our awesome guide, Alan Chou, outlined the days activities with a visual slide show, providing us with information about the places, along with tips and suggestions, answering our questions, to make the most of our experience. Also appreciated that while traveling, we stopped every 1.5 for a toilet break. Alan is very knowledgeable, informative, professional and personable. Loved his stories and humour. Our driver was excellent, safe and considerate. The coach was comfortable, clean, great wifi. We always got a morning wakeup call at the hotel. Breakfast buffets were unbelievable. Taiwan is a beautiful.
The food we tasted was amazing. The guide was unbelievably gracious and knowledgable. He not only had us taste some wonderful food, but he patiently answered all our questions, and explained many different aspects of their culture. My wife and I enjoyed the tour so much, that we would take it again the next time we are there.
