Full description
Violetta is the life of every party. A courtesan with a heart of gold, she’s free and free-spirited. Could a little love change everything? Experience the joy and heartache of the world’s most popular opera on a night out in Sydney. Fireworks light up the sky at every performance. A giant chandelier shimmers over the harbor stage. Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is “the ultimate Sydney experience”. In 2021, the Opera presents La Traviata: the story that inspired Moulin Rouge. Arrive early to enjoy drinks or dinner at one of the five pop-up bars and restaurants onsite. Drink in the view as the setting sun glimmers over the city skyline. The 3.5-tonne chandelier sparkles with 10,000 crystals. The largest scenes feature 70 performers on stage and party boats in the harbor. Verdi’s score offers flying melodies, rousing drinking songs, and heartbreaking duets. Brian Castles-Onion conducts the opera, with a live orchestra hidden under the stage.

The actors did a remarkable job!

The story was everything I remembered from my childhood. I remembered every song, and all the characters. What was new to me was the incredible setting! The props were standing on a skylit stage over the beautiful Sydney Harbour. I will never forget seeing the Sydney Opera’s West Side Story for the rest of my life! What an experience! I cried when it was over!

A great experience with a magnificent view of the harbor. There is nothing wrong with the event itself. However, what was incredibly poorly organized is the arrival when you arrive by public transport. The botanical gardens are closed in the evening and you have to walk over 2 km, there are no signs anywhere, nobody knows, and many visitors wander around aimlessly. If the direct route from Google doesn't work (through the botanical gardens) then you should make sure that people know where to go.
