History is palpable in Berlin. The tumultuous past of Germany remains in the forefront of its citizens’ minds through monuments, memorials, and the few historic sites that weren’t bombed during WWII. Be sure to visit these five in the capital city.
You’ll have to head east for a deeper look into Soviet East Germany; these are some of the only landmarks that weren’t stormed by citizens after the fall of the Wall.
Berliners call the Gedächtniskirche “The Hollow Tooth” because its spire was never reconstructed after WWII to serve as a reminder of war’s terrible destruction.
Berlin’s public transportation system is fantastic. Buy a week pass or a bundle of four single tickets at a time to save a little spending cash.
The city has one of the best global infrastructures for tourism. Take advantage of it! Check out visitberlin.de or look into purchasing a Berlin WelcomeCard, your flatrate ticket that includes train fare, a city map, guide, and discounts on nearly 200 attractions.

Every step of this tour is a learning moment with moments of the satirical and moments for tears. Sarah our guide was so generous with her knowledge, her passion to share this tragic part of history and with other aspects of Berlin life. Sarah thank you I have taken so much away with me...and am reading more and more. An enlightening roller coaster of a tour
Fantastic Tour. Our (Australian!) guide Ernestine was very passionate about German history and super knowledgeable. She really brought the history to life.
Very interesting tour about the Berlin Wall and the important symbols of the cold war. Very good guide, a torough story and a good narrator!
