On this half-day tour you'll relive scenes from one of the most popular movies of all time. Visit the locations used during the filming of The Sound of Music in Salzburg and its surrounding countryside. During the tour, you’ll also hear songs from the original soundtrack. Let your guide show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. See Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water. Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today. The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. After dropping you off in Salzburg at the end of the tour you can visit Mirabell Gardens, located just opposite the tour terminal. Upon arrival, independently explore the beautiful Mirabell Palace Gardens which was used as a filming location for popular "Sound of Music" movie, Mozart Museum, the UNESCO protected Old Town, and catch a spectacular view of the city from the Hohensalzburg fortress. Surrounded by mountains, Salzburg is well known as the birthplace of Mozart and the architecture is heavily inspired by Italian designs. Continue with a scenic drive through the Salzburg Lake District to Hallstatt. Hallstatt Hallstatt is located directly on Hallstattersee. Hallstatt is known as one of the most photographed villages in Europe. Stroll along the Promenade into the colorful town center with numerous small shops, cafes and restaurants. In order to make your visit to Hallstatt more memorable, you have the opportunity to visit the Skydeck directly above the town as well as the Salt Mines for more scenic photo opportunities. In the late afternoon, drive back through the beautiful Austrian countryside to your accommodation in Vienna.

After meeting your guide in your hotel (or any other location in the city) escape Salzburg for a private excursion to Hallstatt. Journey along the emerald-green Fuschlsee to the first stop at Castle Fuschl. Travel on to St. Gilgen and take a stunning photo of the beautiful scenery from a great view point. Leaving St. Gilgen and driving along the Wolfgangsee our trip will bring you to Bad Ischl, famous for its spa and the Emperor’s summer palace. Driving through Bad Goisern you will reach one of the highlights of our tour, Hallstatt: the pearl of the Lake District. In Hallstatt you can choose between taking the panorama funicular railway up the mountain and experience the magnificent World Heritage view 360 meters above town, on the Hallstatt sky walk and continuing on to the oldest salt mine in the world. Alternatively you can visit the 5 Fingers viewing platform – this is probably the most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps and reaches out like a hand over the 400m drop. But it is not just the viewing platform it is also the route there that offers plenty of special features. After your adventure in the mountains or the salt mine you will have enough time to discover all the hidden gems as well as the must-sees of Hallstatt, as well as to have lunch in one of the beautiful lake side restaurants (at own expense). On your way home from Hallstatt, the Gosausee with its backdrop of the glistening Dachstein glacier awaits for a short stop. Then, journey on along the Dachstein mountain range through the ski resort of Russbach to Golling and finally your guide will drop you off at your hotel or any other destination in the city of Salzburg.

Hellbrunn Palace is on the way to the Eagle's Nest which will be next. Passing the border to Germany the journey continues to the Sound of Music Meadow (The Hills are alive). Now is your chance to spin in the field, reenacting the opening scene. Head to the "Obersalzberg" which is located at 3000 ft. elevation right below the Eagle's Nest. Access the Eagle's Nest with special busses and an elevator. Admire the scenic view of the Bavarian Mountains, the King's Lake, and the surrounding area of Salzburg. Returning from the Eagle's Nest, continue to the second highlight of our tour, the Salzburg Lake District. Travel through the Wies Valley and further on to Fuschl and St. Gilgen. Take a stunning photo of the castle of Fuschl with emerald Lake Fuschl in the background. The next highlight is Lake Wolfgang and the village St. Gilgen, the scenery of the area was shown at the beginning of "The Sound of Music." Enjoy a view from the "Mozart View Point" to Lake Wolfgang and the "Schafberg" Mountain. Relax and enjoy the countryside on the drive from St. Gilgen to the lake "Mondsee" and further on to the town of Mondsee with the "Sound of Music Wedding Church", from where you make your way back to Salzburg. Your tour ends with a drop-off at your Salzburg hotel or any other location within the city.
