Grenada: Half-Day Unspoiled Tropical Island Experience

3. Grenada: Half-Day Unspoiled Tropical Island Experience

Here’s an opportunity to experience Grenada’s colorful culture and natural beauty. Spend a half-day visiting the island’s top sites. Begin your tour with a visit to St. George’s, the island’s capital, and see its historical landmarks. From Fort George, you’ll have 360-degree views of the city, the island’s mountainous interior, and of Grand Anse Beach to the south. Stop at the local market and marvel at the variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and spices. After visiting the capital, you’ll take a scenic 20-minute drive to Annandale Falls. This is the perfect opportunity to swim and watch the official jumpers. Enjoy a walk through the surrounding tropical gardens. Another major natural attraction is the Grand Etang Rainforest. Situated nearly 2,000 feet above the sea, the forest features native wildlife, numerous trails, and scenic lookouts that offer views of different parts of Grenada. Visit the crater lake, a natural volcanic feature of the island. You’ll find an information center, restaurant and bar, and shops here. There’s also entertainment on offer that’s provided by local musicians. After visiting the rainforest, you’ll continue on to Grenada Distillers, home of world-renowned Clarke’s Court products. Just a 15-minute drive from the distillery is Morne Rouge Beach, which provides the ideal setting for a meal. Experience delicious island dishes accompanied by local juices and other drinks. Enjoy swimming, water sports, or just relaxing on the sandy beach.

St. George Grenada: Western Route Private Day Excursion

4. St. George Grenada: Western Route Private Day Excursion

Leaving St George's behind we drive past the stadium on our right and up the scenic west coast, rich in history and colour. Concord Waterfall is our first stop, a 1.2 miles drive up a leafy lane beside a stream, dotted with Grenadian agriculture: nutmeg, bananas, cocoa, and many other plants of interest. Next stop is the nutmeg "pool" in Gouyave. You are shown the seasoning, processing and sorting of nutmegs and mace. Nutmeg products vary from syrup to massage oil, garden mulch to nail varnish; even a pain-relieving spray. We continue northward to a magnificent view of Grenada's Grenadine islands, and of the place where the last fighting Caribs committed suicide in 1651, overwhelmed by the prospect of French rule. We next take you to River Antoine Rum Distillery: the place is as antique (1785) as the rum is strong (75% alcohol - ouch). It can be hard to believe that the place is a working distillery, not an elderly museum. Despite its antiquity, it is quite well thought-out, and has environmentally-friendly aspects. By now, you're ready for lunch. Our usual venue is Belmont Estate. This is a delightful rural setting, good, varied local food from a buffet; and a cocoa bean fermentary on site. We look forward to the food ourselves. In the afternoon, we continue through La Poterie and Tivoli, then through Pearls Airport, disused since the Americans 'intervened' in 1983. Today, sheep graze under the remains of two old Soviet-built planes. After driving through Grenville, Grenada's second biggest town, we set off to the middle of the Island, to the mountainous rain forest, where we stop at Grand Etang crater lake. Then we head back to St. George.

Discover Grenada With Lunch at a Local Restaurant

8. Discover Grenada With Lunch at a Local Restaurant

After hoteland port pick-up by private vehicle, head to the first stop on your day tour of Grenada, Concord Waterfall. Located about 12.5 miles (20 km) north of St George’s on Grenada’s west coast, Concord is the first in a series of three waterfalls and the only one in the series that is accessible without hiking there.  When you arrive, cool off with a dip in the clear, chilly pool of water at the bottom of the falls, or just take time to enjoy the peaceful rainforest surroundings if you don’t want to get wet. Then hop back in your coach to drive through the fishing village of Gouyave, where you’ll visit the Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station, one of the island’s largest sites for processing nutmeg, the spice for which Grenada, the Isle of Spice, is most famous.  Continue your day tour to the northern end of the island to visit Carib’s Leap, a 100-foot (30-meter) cliff in the coastal town of Sauteurs where the last of the native Caribs jumped to their deaths in 1651 to avoid surrender to the invading French. Then head to a local restaurant for lunch, allowing yourself to relax for about 45 minutes before the second half of your tour. After lunch, your next stop is the River Antoine Rum Distillery on Grenada’s northeast coast, in the parish of St Patrick. The oldest functioning water-powered distillery in the Caribbean, River Antoine opened in the late 1700s and continues to produce its strong rum, available only in Grenada, using the same old-fashioned methods. After a 15-minute distillery tour, enjoy a sample of the potent liquor.  Finally, head southwest, passing through the town of Grenville, to your last stop, Grand Etang Lake in Grand Etang National Park. Sitting pretty amid Grenada’s rainforest-filled interior, the crater lake is a beautiful spot to end your tour of a beautiful island. You have a few minutes here to take pictures and admire the lush vegetation surrounding the lake. Your day tour then ends with hotel and port drop off.

I highly recommend booking with this tour company . Ronnie (the owner) was unable to conduct my tour but he made arrangements to have an associate, Mr Ted provide the tour to my sister and I. Ted was super nice and knowledgeable of all the parishes/ villages. He Gave great insight on Grenadian history. Service was excellent from start to finish! Kudos to them both.

We had the most amazing time in Grenada. Ronnie was the most incredible tour guide. He was so informative, helpful and personable. We really enjoyed our vacation, mostly because of Ronnie’s hospitality and knowledge of the beautiful island of Grenada. We can’t thank him enough.

The specified time was exceeded in consultation with the participants. This made it possible to stay closer to the individual places and there was no hectic activity anywhere.

This was probably one of best tours that I ever went on! Ronnie went above and beyond! We enjoyed every minute! He's knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile.

We had a private tour that we were able to customize. Our guide was very accommodating.
