Grenada: Island Spice Tour

1. Grenada: Island Spice Tour

Benefit from pickup at your hotel or the cruise ship terminal, and then drive in air-conditioned comfort along the west coast to the fishing town of Gouyave. Pass a nutmeg factory where most of the island's spices are processed for export.    Make your way down a bumpy road to the Dougaldston Estate, and step back in time as the spice plantation comes into view. Visit the building where trays of mace, cocoa, cinnamon, pimento, or cloves are left to dry, depending on the season. Get invited to scratch 'n' sniff the leaves of various plants and guess what they are.  Continue uphill to the Belvedere Plantation, nestled in the cool climate of the mountains where bananas are grown. Travel through the lush landscape to take souvenir photos of the forest reserve and crater lake of Grand Etang National Park. Encounter native Mona monkeys, unique to Grenada in the western hemisphere. End with a stop at the spectacular cascades of Annandale Falls.

St. George Grenada: Western Route Private Day Excursion

2. St. George Grenada: Western Route Private Day Excursion

Leaving St George's behind we drive past the stadium on our right and up the scenic west coast, rich in history and colour. Concord Waterfall is our first stop, a 1.2 miles drive up a leafy lane beside a stream, dotted with Grenadian agriculture: nutmeg, bananas, cocoa, and many other plants of interest. Next stop is the nutmeg "pool" in Gouyave. You are shown the seasoning, processing and sorting of nutmegs and mace. Nutmeg products vary from syrup to massage oil, garden mulch to nail varnish; even a pain-relieving spray. We continue northward to a magnificent view of Grenada's Grenadine islands, and of the place where the last fighting Caribs committed suicide in 1651, overwhelmed by the prospect of French rule. We next take you to River Antoine Rum Distillery: the place is as antique (1785) as the rum is strong (75% alcohol - ouch). It can be hard to believe that the place is a working distillery, not an elderly museum. Despite its antiquity, it is quite well thought-out, and has environmentally-friendly aspects. By now, you're ready for lunch. Our usual venue is Belmont Estate. This is a delightful rural setting, good, varied local food from a buffet; and a cocoa bean fermentary on site. We look forward to the food ourselves. In the afternoon, we continue through La Poterie and Tivoli, then through Pearls Airport, disused since the Americans 'intervened' in 1983. Today, sheep graze under the remains of two old Soviet-built planes. After driving through Grenville, Grenada's second biggest town, we set off to the middle of the Island, to the mountainous rain forest, where we stop at Grand Etang crater lake. Then we head back to St. George.

Grenada: Chocolate Tour with Lunch at Petite Anse

3. Grenada: Chocolate Tour with Lunch at Petite Anse

Discover Grenada, the Caribbean capital of chocolate. Meet your local guide at your hotel lobby in St. George's and start the adventure to discover the chocolate culture of the island. Grenada’s volcanic soil, warm sea air, and sunshine are perfect for growing cacao. The story of Grenadian chocolate goes back to 1714 when cocoa trees were first introduced. The industry grew to the point that, by the 1760s, Grenada was the largest producer and exporter of cocoa. Meet the local chocolatiers who run a small cocoa farm and factory. Learn about their farm and their philosophy. After that, continue the journey on an air-conditioned vehicle until the next stop, Petite Anse. Enjoy a tasty lunch of local authentic cuisine featuring fish, with a rich sauce suitable to satisfy the taste buds, while overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

We had the best tour guide showing us around, thank you Tony!

We had an amazing trip to Grenada, and its thanks to our tour guide, Tony. Not only was he informative, he was also very kind, made us feel comfortable and had a great sense of humor. He went above and beyond to make sure that we saw as much as possible. We were able to plan our day accordingly with Tony catering to our preferences. From waterfalls, to spice plantation tours, to beaches and hikes, our trip was plentiful and left us wanting to see more. Tony even recommended a bunch of lunch and dinner spots that took our breath away. We spent two days with Tony on this tour, exploring the glorious Grenada, and it's safe to say that we would love to come back and take another tour with him! We definitely give him and the tour company five stars! If you're in Grenada and looking for a fun tour, this is the one to choose, we highly recommend it!

It was a great Tour with Toni. We were 2 adults and 2 Kids.

We saw everything we liked to see. The waterfall, spices and local fruits. Toni was totally friendly and helpful. THANK YOU TONI Wir haben alles gesehen was wir sehen wollten. Den Wasserfall, alle Gewürze und Früchte. Toni hat sich intensiv um uns gekümmert und war sehr fürsorglich. DANKE TONI

Tony is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and extraordinary. I HIGHLY recommend anyone looking to tour or to around the island, reach out to his company. It was like reuniting with an old friend who just so happens to know everything about everything. Can't wait to reconnect on my next visit.

The easy way to see a BEAUTIFUL island!

From the start our guide & driver, Andre, was attentive & knowledgable. He pointed out interesting plants & trees but best of all he drove slowly making us feel safe at all times. He took us to everything we wanted to see. An excellent trip.

Our guide Tony was extremely knowledgeable and a blast to spend the day with! Highly recommend!
