Full description

Travel back in time to the devastating day in 79 AD the brooding volcano of Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the Roman city of Pompeii beneath molten ash.  On arrival, your expert guide will take you on a tour through the remains of this UNESCO world heritage site remarkably frozen in time for almost 2,000 years. Hear stories about The Forum, Thermal Baths, Lupanare, Greek Theater, and plaster casts of the bodies of Pompeii people. Following a typical Naples lunch of pizza at one of Pompeii’s cafés, you will then be driven close to the summit of the mountain that destroyed it. From there, it's just a walk to the lip of the crater. The only active volcano in continental Europe, Vesuvius has erupted many times, but it was the destruction of Pompeii and its surrounding towns that made it most famous.

Climb to the top, and walk around the crater, taking in the atmosphere of the smoking mountain. Enjoy the stunning views over the Bay of Naples. Return to Sorrento, where you will be dropped off at your hotel, the cruise ship, or the railway station.

Van picked us up at the hotel right on time and dropped us at the main plaza in front of Pompeii. Our tour guide Maria then ushered us into the actual ruins. She told us all of the info and background of all the little neat parts of the city in the most interesting, engaging, and funny ways. As she led us through the ancient city you could almost envision it full of everyday people, going about their daily lives in their time. Everything is so cool and the surrounding views are phenomenal. Then we took another van in a smaller group (tours were organized and most went back to their cities) and we headed out to Vesuvius. We stopped halfway up the mountain for an awesome margherita pizza, then went to the top. There is about 30 min of uphill walking on a gravel path to the summit. The view is incredible of both inside the volcano and the surrounding coast/cities. Once we arrived back at the van we were taken back to our hotel. P.S. Maria was incredible

On a very hot day my daughter and I were picked up directly outside our hotel. Arrived Pompeii which was very busy and met our guide Celeste. She guided us around for about 2 hours. Very knowledgeable. Disappointed no time given to visiting antiquarium. Meal of pizza and soft drink nice even though service bit slow. We were then taken to Versuvio. My daughter and I walked to top, I didn't realise how steep it would be in parts but worth views at top. Be careful as lots of loose stones under foot. My advice would be to do each site on different days especially when so hot as it's very tiring. It would be nice if coaches carry chilled water on board (to purchase) as you soon get through any taken. A GetYourGuide representative contacted us day before confirming pick up details, payment only taken day before trip. Very well organised.

I loved our guide, she made the tour very interesting. I have forgotten her name which is a pity but she had 30 years experience. I usually don't select guided tours but I would recommend if for Pompeii as the site is so vast for it to make sense and see the most interesting points its needed.
