    The history of Skopje began with the settlements of the Thracians and establishing the fortress of Scupi. Since then, the town has changed its sovereign numerous times, being part of the Roman, Byzanatine, Bulgarian and the Serbian countries for short time.  The Ottomans conquered the city in 1392 and changed the name to Uskub, which became home for numerous Ottomans, Bulgarians and Albanians.  In 1912, the city was liberated from the Ottomans during the First Balkan war, and eventually became a part of the Serbian country. During the two world wars, it was eventually given to Bulgaria, before becoming capital of the Macedonian Federation in the Yugoslavian socialistic republic.     The driver, Robert, arrived on time and we had a very casual and interesting drive thru the mountains. Stopped for a coffee on the way which was a good way of breaking up the trip.     Our tour guide picked my wife and I up from our AirBnB in Macedonia bang on time and took us on a detailed and well run trip from Skopje to two cities in Kosovo (Prishtina and Prizen). Taking in the stunning scenery on the drive into Kosovo we got a good sense of what life is like in this infant-nation. A really good trip and made a really interesting day out for us both.

This was an excellent tour and a great way to learn about Ohrid. My guide (Naumka) was born and raised in the town. She knew the history, background, and modern context of the sites we visited. Her English was excellent and her enthusiasm even more so. It is wonderful to spend time with someone who knows an area so well and loves sharing that information. She is very proud of Ohrid and is both professional and enthusiastic about helping visitors see and understand details that would otherwise be overlooked.

Fantastic from beginning to end. Felt like I really saw everything I would have wanted to see in a day trip. Guide was amazing and provided extensive insight into Kosovo’s recent history, as well as the much more extensive history of the region. I highly recommend this trip from Macedonia - fascinating country and excellent guide / driver.
