From Ljubljana: Skočjan Caves Half-Day Trip

1. From Ljubljana: Skočjan Caves Half-Day Trip

The Škocjan Caves are a unique natural phenomenon, created by the Reka River. The Reka River springs below the Snežnik plateau and flows for 55 kilometers (34 miles) on the surface. After reaching the karst — that is, the limestone surface — the river not only deepens its riverbed through erosion but also corrosion; it dissolves the limestone and creates the caves. Explore the Škocjan Caves with a local, English-speaking guide on this half-day trip from Ljubljana. Get picked up at your hotel or guesthouse at 8:30 AM, then drive to the caves as your guide informs you about Slovenia. Upon arrival at around 9:30 AM, your guide will help you to buy the tickets to enter the cave. At 10 AM, begin your tour of the caves, spending around 1 hour and 45 minutes inside. Marvel at how big the caves are and learn all about the things you see. Make sure to dress warmly as the constant temperature in the caves is between 8–10ºC (46–50ºF). After your tour, you can eat something at the restaurant near the ticket counter if you wish. Finally, get back in your vehicle at 12 PM and return to Ljubljana. The tour concludes with drop-off at your original pickup point at approximately 1 PM.
