  • Tromso: Whale Watching in Magic Skjervoy

    1. Tromso: Whale Watching in Magic Skjervoy

Watch magnificent humpback whales and orcas feed on shoals of herring when they migrate to Skjervoy between November and January. Enjoy a scenic panoramic drive from Tromso to Skjervoy, then hop into a rigid-inflatable boat (RIB) for a once in a lifetime experience in a small group of between 4-12 people. Meet at the Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromso bright and early at 6 AM. From here, drive for 3.5 hours to Skjervoy to meet your English-speaking guide. Once in Skjervoy, receive a warm flotation suit before getting into the RIB. Then, set off on a 2.5-hour whale watching excursion in the Kvaenangen Fjord. Marvel at the natural scenery and keep your eyes peeled for orcas and humpback whales, as well as other local wildlife. After your excursion, refresh with some sandwiches, tea, and coffee before driving back to Tromso.

Amazing activity. We were able to watch a large group of orcas very close to the boat and also one humpback whale. The guides acted respectfully around the whales and helped ud to point out the whales. I would warmly recommend the trip, though I must mention it can be rough if you suffer easily from seasickness.

Here you’ll get a nice and warm group dinner and short photo workshop. Experience the Northern Lights at night and photograph the incredible phenomenon right outside the Green Gold Villa. Accommodation is at one of six private Crystal Lavvos. Next morning, enjoy breakfast together before returning to Tromso at 11:00 AM.

It was the best of our trip this year. Amazing experience, scenery and polar light.

  • From Tromsø: All-Inclusive Whale and Sea Bird Boat Cruise

    3. From Tromsø: All-Inclusive Whale and Sea Bird Boat Cruise

Board a safari boat in Tromsø for a comfortable 6 to 7-hour cruise to Whale Island and the open sea. Listen to your guide’s commentary about the different fish and whale species that thrive in waters that are filled with herring and plankton. The coast of Tromsø in northern Norway is widely considered among the best areas in the region for spotting whales. You’ll be on the lookout for inquisitive humpback and killer whales swimming and feeding, and for birds such as sea eagles, gulls, guillimots, eider ducks and cormorants. Frame all the action through the lens of your camera. With outdoor decking and indoor seating on board the heated boat, you can enjoy an up-close experience with Norway’s native wildlife.

Great experience! Saw so many whales and orcas + several eagles. After more than two hours watching them we got a really tasty fish soup to warm us up afterwards.

  • Skjervoy: RIB Boat Whale Watching Tour

    4. Skjervoy: RIB Boat Whale Watching Tour

Every year at the end of October, huge shoals of herrings arrive around Skjervoy and the Kvanangen Fjord 3.5 hours North East of Tromso. Hundreds of Orcas and many Humpback whales follow these shoals of herring and stay around Skjervoy until the end of January. For your whale watching excursion, you will be picked from the meeting point in Skjervoy, and provided with a warm floatation suit. You will then board a small RIB boat to head out to see. You will see many whales, and even hear and smell them. Enjoy their company and take as many photos as you like. It will be cold, so make sure you bring warm and waterproof clothes for the excursion. We will give you flotation suits that you will wear on top of your own clothes. An experienced instructor will be there to answer any questions you might have about the whales or the area. When the excursion is over, you will have sandwiches, tea ...

Beautiful experience! Departed at 6 from Tromso, arrived at the port around 10, they provided us with overalls, boots, gloves, mountain passes, masks. Then almost three hours at sea. Warn whales and killer whales! Brigitte was very kind and good at spotting animals. I recommend to cover up very very well because despite everything you get wet and it is very cold!
