Tromsø: Private 6-Hour Aurora Chase by Minivan

1. Tromsø: Private 6-Hour Aurora Chase by Minivan

Drive along beautiful fjords, mountains and lakes on an exciting chase for the elusive Northern Lights. Enjoy having your private minivan just for you and your partner, family, or friends. Learn how to take pictures of the Aurora, and (weather and energy permitting), capture the magic Aurora in photographs. You'll be picked up from your accommodation in Tromsø and set out for a 6-hour excursion in search of this beautiful natural phenomenon. One night, this might take you to the Finnish border while another evening the forecast will show clear skies on the Fjords at the west of Tromsø—you'll be taken where the chances for clear skies are highest. Around Tromsø at 69.43 degrees latitude North, if you can see stars in the sky, you can see the Northern Lights. Once your driver takes you to clear skies, it's just about patiently waiting with some tea, coffee, and muffins until a quiet Aurora, a strong Aurora, or a super strong Aurora strikes. Your instructor will show you how to best capture it so that you can take the memory of this amazing sight home with you.

Francisco, our guide who had 12 years of experience chasing and photographing the Northern Lights, was amazing! He was always energetic and cheerful, which was great in the cold nights. The tour started with an explanation of how Northern Lights tracking and chasing works, as well as setting realistic expectations. (For your reference, the lights you most likely see will be faint streaks of white light in the sky, which turn into green colors through long exposure photos.) Note that while the tour is private (i.e. you get your own guide and minivan), the tour still starts with other customers who booked any kind of Northern Lights chase tour at the same time. Moreover, the locations you go to will also be shared with them. We were initially worried about this aspect when we had to wait for others, but ended up having a great experience nevertheless! Francisco also took wonderful photos that he edited and shared with us for free the same night.

We had booked the private tour with six people. The pick-up worked to the minute. In the base we got to know the other group. A brief introduction to the Northern Lights followed. Then it goes in our little to go. The first northern lights were not long in coming. We were able to take wonderful photos, both ourselves and with the guide. The tips for the camera settings were very helpful. Since we were a private group, we were able to stay at the place much longer than the others. Unfortunately it got very cold after about 1 1/2 hours, which is why we wanted to go back to the base. If necessary, suits and shoes can be borrowed. I can recommend this to everyone. It's really cold. Great experience that should be on the bouquet list.

We had an amazing time with Francisco of Green Gold of Norway. We appreciated his honestly about notifying us that there was going to be no chance of seeing the northern lights that evening and asked if we wanted to rebook; which we did. We rebooked for 2 nights later and the northern lights danced in the sky for 2 hours. Francisco offered to take pictures of our group and sent us those pictures and more before we woke up the next morning. This was a once in a lifetime experience and we highly recommend Francisco and Green Gold of Norway to make your experience unforgettable.

Sanda was an excellent guide giving us lots of information about Norway as he drove. He was friendly and chatty and also a very safe driver. We were lucky enough to have a fantastic view of the northern lights and Sanders knowledge and expertise as a photographer meant we were able to take some amazing photographs which wouldn’t have happened without his help. He really knows his way around cameras.

Excellent! It was really nice and professional. Nice and clear explanation and great spots for Aurora. We were so lucky and saw the fantastic scene. Recommend everyone to join the tour.
