Hop aboard a restored convertible Portuguese 4x4 and set out to see the wild west coast of Portugal. Take in the natural beauty that exists in the Sintra region, away from the spectacular palaces and monuments. Start the expedition at Guincho Beach, where you’ll spot surfers catching seemingly endless waves. Head off on dirt tracks and continue inland until you reach the mountaintop 12th-century Peninha Sanctuary. Enjoy 360-views of the coastline that stretches from Lisbon to Cascais, Costa da Caparica and Arrabida. Get back in the 4x4, set off, and feel the wind in your hair as you return to the coast. Reach ‘the edge of the earth’ at Cabo da Roca. The sheer cliffs and lighthouse mark the westernmost point on mainland Europe. Contie to Buraco do Fojo, a natural sight and viewpoint that is off-the-beaten track. Finish the day by sinking your toes into the sand on the beautiful beaches of Sintra. Head from Praia Grande to Praia das Maças before reaching Azenhas do Mar. Here traditional white-washed Portuguese villages cling to the cliffside above sandy beaches and the wild Atlantic ocean. Soak it all in before you’re dropped off at Sintra train station.
