Full description

Wine lovers will enjoy this full-day tour through the beautiful Tuscan landscape with stops to visit some typical local wineries. Explore the famous wine hills of Montalcino and learn about the process and passion involved in creating Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's most prestigious wines. Your tour begins with a drive along the ancient Roman road from Siena to the famous wine hills of Montalcino.

The first stop will be at a small, typical area winery where you’ll have a chance to walk in the vineyards, explore the cellars, and enjoy an introductory tasting of world-famous Brunello wine. Next, you’ll head to Montalcino, the hill town that gives its name to the region and its wines.

Here you’ll have the opportunity to climb the fortress walls, spend some time browsing the shops and tasting the Brunello wines in wine bars, or simply enjoy the incredible views of the valleys and vineyards below. After visiting the town of Montalcino the tour continues on to the stunning ancient mystical Benedictine Abbey of Sant Antimo, a special place in a tranquil setting. You’ll enjoy a traditional Tuscan lunch at a family-run winery, accompanied by the delicious wines produced at the facility. Afterwards, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the farm. In the afternoon you’ll visit a third winery where you’ll get a detailed description of the wine-making process, and learn how the vines are cared for and about the long aging process in oak barrels.

After visiting the cellars and getting to know the winemakers, you’ll sit down for a final tasting of this nectar of the gods.

It varied slightly from the description given. We were told it would be 9 hours and would include a visit to an abbey. Instead we returned to Siena in 7 1/2 hours and did not go to the abbey. Our guide Elio did an excellent job driving and explaining sights as we drove near or past interesting places. He also did a great job translating for one of the vintners. He has a very pleasant personality. As the tour progressed it became a little more difficult to hear him in the back seat. All in all though, we enjoyed the tour and the 3 wineries. The lunch was fantastic as was visiting the home for the lunch. We highly recommend the experience.

We visited three wineries, trying three wines at each, and also stopped at an abbey and Montalcino, with time to explore its small fortress and a bit of the town. At the second winery, we had a great light lunch in the winemaker's home prepared by his wife. All in all a great time, even if I'm not sure Brunello is for me.

William is the best tour guide hands down! Our wine tour with him for the Brunello wineries was one of the highlights of our Italy trip. He was a great tour guide with lots of interesting information about the wineries, Tuscany, and Italy in general. He had a great sense of humour too which made it more fun and it was appreciated. The Tuscany hills are breathtaking during the drive and the wineries are amazing!! They’re all smaller batch wineries which we enjoyed as you get the whole experience of how the wine travels from grape to bottles, and most importantly you can see how much love goes into these bottles. The wines are all delicious, and the lunch was incredible. The views, hosts, food, and company was such a special experience for lunch. Would highly recommend this tour for a fantastic day! Thank you William.
