You will meet the Driver and Guide in your hotel lobby and will start a daily tour. The route will take over the Georgian Military Highway up North, towards the border with Russia. Your first stop will be Jhinvali Water reservoir created during the soviet era, promptly continuing to Ananuri complex, a former residence of Argveti Dukes. The complex features churches and towers dating back to the 16-17th centuries, beautifully overlooking the Jhinvali reservoir. Continue your drive to see the conjunction of two small mountain rivers famous for the fact that being different in color they still keep their own colors even after merge. Continuing on the way you will have a chance to taste the mineral mountain springs in Mleta after which you will drive over the Cross Pass to Gudauri Ski Resort, where you can enjoy the Winter Sports during winter or be more adventurous and experience Rafting or Horse-riding on summer, with local professionals. Take the chance to visit Uplistsikhe, a cave town fortress situated on a rocky massif on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. Dating back to the 1st and 2nd millennium B.C., Uplistsikhe was an important religious, political and cultural center in the Hellenistic and late Antique periods. The place was founded in the late Bronze Age, around 1000 B.C., and continued to be inhabited until the 13th century A.D. Between the 6th century B.C. and the 11th century A.D., Uplistsikhe was one of the most important political and religious centers of pre-Christian Kartli, one of the predecessors of the Georgian state. Visitors can still walk among the ancient streets, rock-carved theater, royal halls, pharmacy, pagan temples and Christian churches, while the remains of granaries and large clay wine vessels give us some clue as to the daily life of the inhabitants. You can also visit Joseph Stalin’s Museum in Gori, Stalin (originally Georgian) was the secretary general of the Communist Party during World War II. The museum features Stalin’s house (a hut where he was born), his armor plated railway carriage and a statue that was controversially standing in the main square of Gori up until 2010. Afterwards, discover Gori Fortress, a medieval citadel in Georgia which stands above the city of Gori on a rocky hill. Following this, you will venture to Borjomi, a picturesque resort town in south-central Georgia located on the edge of the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. It is one of the districts of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region and is situated in the northwestern part of the region in the picturesque Borjomi Gorge, on the eastern edge of the National Park. The town is famous for its mineral water, which is the number one export of Georgia. Borjomi is also home to the most extensive ecologically themed amusement park in the Caucasus. Due to the supposed curative powers of the area's mineral springs, it is a frequent destination for people with health problems.

You will be picked up from your hotel at 9:00AM, before driving approximately 1.5 hours to reach your first destination of Uplistsikhe. Literally meaning "Fortress of God", this is an ancient rock-hewn town which played a significant role in Georgian history over a period of approximately 3,000 years. Archaeological excavations have revealed extraordinary artifacts here dating from the late Bronze Age all the way up to the late Middle Ages. There is the Uplistsikhe cave-town fortress, situated on a rocky massif 15 kilometers eastward from the town of Gori on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The fortress is mentioned in chronicles from the earliest times, with its history beginning in the 1st-2nd millennium B.C. Uplistsikhe was an important religious, political and cultural center in the Hellenistic and the late Antique periods (4th century B.C.–4th century A.D.). Once inside the museum, your local guide will provide you with detailed information about this cave city. Once done in Uplistsikhe, your tour continues to Borjomi National Park, a distance of approximately 1.5-hours. The beautiful resort town of Borjomi contains the world-famous mineral springs and a beautiful park. In the park you will have the opportunity to taste legendary and world famous Borjomi mineral water fresh from the spring. Your day trip will then conclude with return to your hotel at approximately 7:00PM.

8. From Tbilisi: Full-Day Snowshoeing Tour to Kazbegi

Start the tour early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Tbilisi. Head to the north of Tbilisi through the Georgian Military Road. The road runs between Tbilisi (Georgia) and Vladikavkaz (Russia) and follows the traditional route used by traders and invaders throughout the ages. On the way to Mt. Kazbegi, enjoy views of Ananuri Fortress arising above Jinvali Lake and surrounding the mountain area. Farther on, the road continues to the Gudauri Skiing Resort located 120 kilometers north from Tbilisi at a height of 2,196 meters (about 7,200 feet). It is a young and rapidly developing winter resort located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range. Here, one can reach the summit of Mount Sadzele taking an aerial lift at an altitude of 3000 meters. In just a few minutes drive, one can reach Cross Pass, the highest point of the Georgian Military Road (about 2400 meters). From Cross Pass with the Serpentine Road, arrive down to the small village of Stapantsminda at the foot of Mt. Kazbegi from where you will start the snowshoeing tour to the awesome Gergeti Trinity Church. Walking up to the church takes 1 to 2-hours of winter hiking through the snowy forest up to the hills. The difference of altitude from Stepantsminda to Gergeti Trinity Church is 400 meters. Reaching the main highlight of the day, Gergeti Trinity Church (2170 meters) overlooks the area proudly as a steady symbol of Georgia. Enjoy the stunning views in a fabulous atmosphere. Due to your wish and possibility, it's available to prolong your trip after covering the main area and examine your opportunities  beyond. By the church as an award, you will have a warm coffee with a light snack and hot drinks overlooking the Tergi River gorge and village Gergeti covered with deep snow. After the trip, you will be driven you back to Tbilisi. On the way back, due to your wish, have a short stop at Ananuri Fortress. (16th to 17th century).

This was a really lovely day getting out of the city and seeing the mountains up close and personal. Irakli was a great guide, very friendly and fun to spend time with. The 4WD ride up the bumpy road to the church was especially memorable! Bring a snack with you if needed because lunch is pretty late in the day. Would highly recommend this to everyone!
