Belfast: Political Conflict 3-Hour Walking Tour

2. Belfast: Political Conflict 3-Hour Walking Tour

Venture beyond the guide books and explore Belfast through the political conflict known as “The Troubles.” Walk the streets on both sides of the Peace Line with men and women who have served time in the prisons of Northern Ireland for standing up for their beliefs. Hear stories from both the Republican and Loyalist communities about the effects of the conflict, and get explanations about the political murals that tell the history and culture of the area from a unique perspective. Start by meeting a Republican ex-political prisoner for a guided walk along the infamous Falls Road. See visible signs of the community's desire to be part of an Irish Republic. Then, pass through the electronically-controlled gates to the predominately Protestant area of the Shankill Road, where you will meet a Loyalist ex-political prisoner to investigate the determination of the locals who wish to remain part of the United Kingdom. For more than 30 years “The Troubles” have had a powerful impact on the city and its residents. Very few people were unaffected by the violence, and everyone has a tale to tell. Investigate the real stories beyond the history books with first-hand accounts from those intimately involved. Explore the world’s largest, outdoor art gallery as you examine the many murals, and get the opportunity to sign the Peace Wall and leave your thoughts alongside those of Bill Clinton and the Dalai Lama.

Myself and my boyfriend came to Belfast for a festive trip and were lucky enough to get an opportunity to take this taxi tour. Michael our tour guide from Belfast Tours gave us a highly enjoyable and insightful tour. I would highly recommend all to book this tour and would like to thank Michael for making this the highlight of our trip! 10/10

Absolutely fascinating tour, getting to hear the stories from both sides of political prisoners of the time. It was hard listening at times, but such a great idea to get both sides I'd the story when there is usually only one narrative. The walk isn't actually that far as there is a lot of stopping, but still wear good comfortable shoes!

Myself and my wife had an excellent tour with our guide Jimmy Poland . Jimmy was very friendly and made the tour very interesting with his detailed knowledge of the troubles . We would highly recommend Jimmy for anyone doing the black taxi tour. Paul & Geraldine from Dublin

Highly recommended tour. Our driver Jimmy gave us extremely detailed and interesting talks and descriptions of ‘The Troubles’, stopping several times on the drive at different walls and places of interest for further talks and to take photos etc.

Really informative tour, our tour guide John was excellent.
