Full description
Discover the river the Romans named Betis, now known as Guadalquivir River, meaning "the Big River" in Arabic. It holds many stories and fun facts about the history of Seville. Let your experienced professional guide take you on a journey through some of Seville's most important historical moments such as the discovery of America and the first trip around the world. See sights such as Isla de La Cartuja, Maestranza, El Barrio del Arenal and the Universal Exhibition of 1992. Find out why this river was very important during the golden era of Seville, which lasted about 150 years. Seville was the main port of Europe for incoming goods from America such as gold, silver and tobacco. The river was sanded in the 17th century and Seville became less important. For the Expo 92, the river was restored and it is now used for cruises and kayaking.

We struggled to find the location which was stressful. Google maps & apple maps both took as about a 10 min walk further down the river. I called to find out where to go & the instructor sent me a live whatsapp location. This was helpful but perhaps the email instructions could give a more precise location. We had all canoed before so no training was needed. We had to collect the boats (which were very heavy!) and take them to the water. Once on the water our guide told us a couple of things about the local area and then we paddled to one bridge at a time then stopped for a few minutes of information about the surroundings. The scenery was pleasant although it was hard paddling - not much flow in the river to help you along! We were a group of 6 and it was a great achievement but exhausting! We got really wet - definitely take a towel and change of clothes, snacks and drinks. There's a non secure place to leave your bags in reception. There's a drinks/snacks van on site.

My husband and I are both active people and were looking for a way to experience the beautiful Guadalquivir River while sneaking in a little exercise. We were happy to find this kayak tour and had the best guide named Rey. He was very knowledgable of the area and really opened our eyes to the surrounding neighborhoods of Sevilla. We were in a small group with another couple and mother-daughter duo and each couple got their own kayak to share. The tour was earlier in the morning to avoid the high temperatures but being in the water really kept us cool. Let me tell you, we were exhausted by the end of the roughly 2hr tour but overall really enjoyed the experience and the different perspective of the city from the river!

If you want to see the sights then stick to the cycle tour. But if you want fun and exercise then kayaking down the Guadalquivir is a lovely experience. Lots of professional rowers and canoeists using the river, as well as school trips which all adds to the atmosphere. We kept having bursts of trying to keep up with the pros as they raced past us. Worth knowing - the start point is from a proper rowing club with facilities so do take spare clothes and towel so you can shower and change afterwards.
