Full description
Start with pickup from your hotel and travel to the archaeological site of Akrotiri, one of the most important sites of its kind in Greece. Enjoy a guided tour of an ancient town which was built around the year 2000 BC, and which was buried under pumice stones and volcanic ashes during a great volcanic eruption in 1613 BC. Learn how Akrotiri was once the center of a brilliant civilization that reached its heyday between 1550-1500 BC. Learn about the stately houses and buildings which were built in the Cycladic style and are indicative of the city's prosperity and wealth. Next, visit the Lost Atlantis Interactive Museum, where you will learn about the mythological island of Atlantis and its utopian society. Discover the impact that this legend had on literature and the arts throughout the centuries, as well as Greek culture and heritage.  Finally, take a short boat trip around the volcano of Santorini. Learn how the islands of Santorini were created by a period of intense volcanic activity. Today the result of these eruptions is the creation of five separate islands, Santorini, Therasia, an uninhabited island called Aspronisi, and the volcanic islands of Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni. After the boat trip, return to shore and be transferred to your hotel.
