1. Montserrat & Cava Wineries Day Trip from Barcelona w/ Pickup

Discover the beauty of Mount Montserrat and visit the Montserrat Monastery on this day trip in an airconditioned van from Barcelona. Head to Santa Cova and have the chance to hear the Montserrat’s Boys’ Choir. Savor wine and tapas at an ancient winery in Sant Sadurní d'Anoi.  Depart Barcelona and drive towards the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range for a morning visit to the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat, world-renowned for its shrine to the Virgin of Montserrat, also known as the "Black Madonna." Marvel at the monastery and its surrounding scenery on a curious-shaped rock that rises 2,380 feet above sea level. Enter the monastery to see its Romanesque icon of the "Black Madonna" which is thought to date back to the 12th century. Get unparalleled views of the magical landscape, declared a national park in 1987. Head to the Santa Cova ("Holy Grotto") where, according to legend, the virgin appeared before some shepherd children in a vision.  Benefit from the chance to hear the angelic voices of La Escolania de Montserrat (Montserrat’s Boys’ Choir ), one of the oldest children's choirs in Europe (subject to seasonal availability). Head to Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in the heart of Catalonia's cava wine producing region and visit a premium cava winery, where the tradition of making sparkling wines date back almost 5 centuries. Visit the cellar and descend to the dungeons where the wine is stored for several years. Learn about wine production and vineyard maintenance. Taste 3 varieties of local wines and cavas paired with traditional cheeses and cold meats. Gaze out at views of the Catalan countryside with Mount Montserrat in the background. Hear about the process of producing cava at a family business that first produced it according to traditional methods in 1872, and by using grapes from the Penedès region. Return to your meeting point in Barcelona at the conclusion of your tour.

Montserrat & Cava Winery Small Group Day Tour

2. Montserrat & Cava Winery Small Group Day Tour

Embark on a guided day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat and the Penedès wine-growing region by minivan. Visit the monastery and the Museum of Monserrat, listen to Europe's oldest children's choir, walk through the mountain range's many paths, and visit a winery - this tour has it all. There will be plenty of free time to explore Montserrat on your own, but a visit to the sanctuary where the Moreneta is housed is a must. Pilgrims and other visitors have climbed the mountain to visit this sanctuary for nearly 1,000 years. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the fascinating Museum of Montserrat, and browse its collections that range from the Archaeology of the Biblical East to Modern Painting and Sculpture. A highlight of visiting Montserrat is listening to the voices of Europe’s oldest children’s choir, La Escolania de Montserrat. There are numerous walking and climbing trails on the mountain, ranging from easy strolls to serious hikes. Each trail offers a different perspective on the surrounding landscape, dotted with small chapels and hermitages.  If you'd rather not walk at all, then another option is to take one of the 2 rack railways or the cable car, which also provides stunning views of the area. After the morning in Montserrat, the tour heads to Penedès, a wine-growing region where you'll stop by the Cavas Codorníu winery to view the vast wine cellars and taste some of the wineries' renowned products. You'll tour the winery and see how this sparkling wine is produced, from pressing the grapes to fermentation in the vast cellars. No winery visit would be complete without a taste of the product, so at the end of the tour, you'll have a chance to try some of the best Cava the region produces.

This was a great trip. Our guide was Vicente, and he was super friendly and knowledgeable and his English was the best of any tour we took (he studied in the US). Definitely recommend going with a small group tour! We opted for hotel pickup and dropoff. There were 7 of us, which was great - everyone except the two New Yorkers had a great time, and I think those ladies would have complained if they'd won the lottery. Do the world a favor and don't go on a tour of a mountaintop monastery if you're going to complain about a few stairs, ok? ANYWAY Vicente was an awesome guide and let us choose between 2 restaurants for lunch, and also snuck in a surprise visit to a renowned chocolatier in a small village near the winery. My only suggestion is that if you want to go up the funicular to the very top of the mountain, tell the guide at the outset - it might mean skipping the church, but you don't really have time to do both. Also, props to Mario, the Llopart winery host!

Ariadna was a great guide! She had extensive knowledge and such a great enthusiasm for the area and places we visited. I enjoyed that although there was a plan there was a bit of a choose your own adventure aspect to the day. Our driver was great and the ride was comfortable. Our group was the perfect size of just 3 couples and we all got along great which definitely added to the experience. Wouldn't hesitate to book with this company again. Thank you for the great day!

Ariadna was fantastic. She was sweet, friendly, knowledgeable and so incredibly attentive to our experience. Heavy fog blocked our morning views (which she had no control over) and she made special arrangements to have us take the rail back down the mountain to enjoy the views in the afternoon. The lunch she arranged was the best meal we had in Barcelona. She was an exceptional guide and a true joy to spend the day with.

We had a great time. It was a lot of fun. There were only 4 of us ( me & my husband and the two other travelers, Julie & Natasha. Liana was a very cool tour guide. The 5 of us just kept laughing and making jokes on our way to Montserrat. We just met here in Barcelona but feels like we already knew each other for a long time and this made the tour more fun.

Intimate group experience and perfect short day trip
