Full description
Your guide will pick you up at your place of stay and you will take a scenic drive to Peterhof. As you arrive to Peterhof, start your tour in the French style Upper Gardens, pass by the Grand Palace constructed by the famous Italian architect Francesco Rastrelli and continue to Lower Park. Walk towards the Grand Cascade marveling at one of the most extensive waterworks of the Baroque period. Admire the golden statue of Samson that represents Russia’s victory over Sweden in the Great Northern War. Continue your tour by entering the Grand Palace, arguably the most famous residence of the Russian Czars. See rooms which date back to the time of Peter the Great and marvel at the shining golden Baroque halls and rooms from the Classical period. Walk along colorful flowerbeds to the main square of the garden and see the famous Roman and Chessboard Hill fountain.   Then, continue to the fountains of “Adam” and “Eve” that were originally modeled after the statues of “Adam and Eve” in the Doge’s Palace in Venice.  Be careful as you walk by several “trick fountains” that were absolute favorites of Peter the Great, to prank his numerous guests. Continue strolling around the numerous cascades and fountains as your tour slowly ends. After an incredible day take the Hydrofoil boat to enjoy the spectacular views of the Neva River as you travel back to St.Petersburg.

Elena the guide was excellent. Unfortunately the tour was delayed by 45 mins (admittedly prearranged to change from 9.00 to 9.30 but she and also the taxi were late) so when we got to a Peterhof the place was absolutely crowded out with other huge tours so we lost any advantage. The so called VIP entrance was a joke and we queued there for over half an hour all tightly bunched up together. Once inside the staff efficiently moved us through, but it was a race so no time to dwell and look at the Artifacts. I was not aware when booking that the 12th June was a public holiday, though the crowds going into the Palace where nearly all tourists. As said above Elena rose above the difficulty and kept cheerful and professional in very difficult circumstances. By the end of the day we did say we had enjoyed it, but only after a nice lunch in the restaurant there and walk round the grounds. The gold fountains were superb

Fantastic day perfect weather and great guide

We enjoyed a special day at Peterhof with our guide Alexander who is very knowledgeable on art and Russian history. Alexander was very attentive even on the trip to and from Peterhof giving historical explanations of area and sites along the way. She also went beyond the call of duty taking us to our destination after the tour as many roads were closed due to the Victory Parade. Would highly recommend Alexandra.
