Discover Mexican local culture on a van tour from Mexico City. Walk through Toluca's charming streets, Metepec Magical Town's clay wonders, and San Mateo Atenco's local footwear production. Learn about the rich history and local culture from your driver/guide. Head to your first stop, Toluca. Make your way to is impressive botanical garden and marvel at its impressive "Cosmovitral" (from the Spanish words “cosmo” meaning “universe” and “vitral” meaning “stained glass”). This garden was built in the middle of the past Century, occupying an Art Nouveau Building that was used as the local market “Mercado 16 de Septiembre”. Inside, admire the monumental stained-glass wall decorated with glass mosaics representing the human race and the universe, all while you appreciate more than 400 species of plants from around the world. Next, visit Metepec — a “Magical Town” famous for of its handicrafts made out of clay, like jars, pots, plates, and the most iconic one: the "Tree of life" or the Catrinas that is emblematic of Metepec. Here, visit a clay workshop owned by the family who created the "Tree of Life". Take your time making your own clay piece of art using molds and following the process step by step under the supervision of an expert craftsperson. Then, enjoy free time to eat lunch or walk through Metepec at your own pace. Finally, head to San Mateo Atenco — where the community has become a very important commercial center thanks to its large production of footwear with roots linked to the Mexican Revolution. Nowadays, the town sees hundreds of visitors flock its streets every weekend to take advantage of its famous leather footwear, belt, purses, and clothes prices.
