Full description
Explore San Jose by night, and see its local markets and cultural icons, before ending with dinner and wine pairings - your evening sorted! A local guide will get you up-close-and-personal with the nightlife of San Jose, starting at Central Market, site of the city’s best food scene. Stroll among the stalls to see what roots, herbs and fruit are common to the local cuisine. Locals say that you can get anything you need here, even love potions to attract a boyfriend or girlfriend. Next, make your way down Avenida Central, taking a trip down memory lane and learning the city’s history, Visit one of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in the city; the National Theatre. Continue to Parque Morazan, named after the 19th-century general who attempted to unite the Central American nations under a single flag. Get a fantastic view of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, known locally as the “Yellow House” from Parque España. Marvel at buildings that feel like you’ve gone back to the 1800s, including the National Distillery, Paseo de las Damas, Supreme Court of Elections, and National Park.  You will end up at the artisan market, where there will be time to browse before continuing the walk to Paseo de la Luz, an area on the east side of San Jose that’s well known for its gastronomy. On the way to this suburb of San Jose, you will get to witness the growth of the city due to its popularity with national and international companies. Spend the rest of the evening at a favorite local restaurant that specializes in Argentinian wine and gourmet food. Their menu is Mediterranean, but the ingredients are Costa Rican and the wine pairings you will receive have been specifically selected for each meal. Enjoying your tasty 3-course meal and wines that go down a treat, you will end the evening in fine fashion, feeling every bit the San Jose local. If you would like to continue the evening, your local guide will be happy to provide suggestions on where to head. If not, they can assist you with getting a taxi back to your hotel.

I was hoping to do more tasting along the way but the meal at the end was absolutely delicious and worth the wait! It was nice to sit and talk with our guide, Gladys—a local full of knowledge and passion about Costa Rica, about life in Costa Rica. It was a special and unique experience.

We had a wonderful time with our guide Eric. He gave us fantastic insights into the cultural and historical background of Costa Rica and the capital. the tour opens your eyes and was one of our highlights during our tour through Panama and Costa Rica. The restaurant is outstanding. It is not the typical and simple tourist food, but very good and refined cuisine.

Informative tour!

Estabon was our guide. He was able to explain a lot of the history of Costa Rica and it's landmarks to us. He also knew a lot about the culture and was able to answer any questions we had. The dinner was wonderful. Every single item they brought took the table was tasty, including the Sangria. It was a great way to get to know the city. The only downside was it was difficult to find the exact location to meet. Perhaps there should be a flag or something.
