For enthusiasts it is certainly an interesting and engaging experience. The Japanese instructor and staff are very nice and make the most of the class time. Obviously, in just one hour, at most an hour and a half, one only has the possibility of just skimming the surface of this ancient and fascinating Japanese art. But, as neophytes, what this experience has left us is a pleasant, instructive and intense moment of history and concrete action, lived in samurai clothes, holding, unsheathing and making the katana vibrate following the instructions (for us Europeans, in English ) of the master. We were six adults in the group and we all had fun trying out the two/three movement sequences or "choreographies" we had just learned. Please bring your cell phones/cameras with you, because the instructor will be your photographer! PS: Even if swords are NOT sharp they are still made of steel and must be handled with care.

Excellent !! There were two of us in the 90 minute course which lasted almost 2 hours! The instructor is adorable and explained to us in English the history of the samurai, the different movements with the katana, then with the fan and finally the walk of the samurai and the dance with the katanas. At the end he offers us a samurai diploma with our names in Japanese as well as the collar used in the outfit he lends us for the course. He gives us the opportunity to take pictures and even guides us on the first ones. Very good experience, to do and redo!

It is the highlight of my experience in Kyoto. Loved it and would actually start taking regular classes it I lived there. Our sensei was so nice and funny. We chose our samurai customs and he even helped me colour match. Then we learned a couple of moves and he was so patient everytime . He made sure we heard a ‘swoosh’ sound. At the end we got to take pictures and we received certificates!! thank you very much ☺️☺️

Recommended and original activity. Taking advantage of the fact that it was raining, we spent a fun afternoon learning something new. The instructor is very friendly and involved. punctuality, cleanliness, seriousness... and they even had a couple of souvenir details! we recommend it without a doubt.

What an mind boggling experience it was. I enjoyed every bit. The samurai uniforms were very beautiful and high quality with a variety of options. Hoga sensei was very kind, patient, and talented. We learned so much from him. I would highly recommend everyone to give it a shot.
