Popular Ecotourism in Samaná Province
Our most recommended Samaná Province Ecotourism
1. From Punta Cana: Samana Day Trip
Samaná is a peninsula located on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Full of incredible landscapes and pure nature, it is a member of the World's Most Beautiful Bays Club of UNESCO as well as having been classified as a World Eco-Tourism Paradise. Each year between the months of February and March over 3,500 humpback whales mate in the warm coastal waters just off of the coast of the peninsula. Your tour begins with a boat trip from Miches to the Bay of Samaná, accompanied by a beautiful view. After arriving to your location, you will embark on a horseback trek to the majestic 50-meter high Lemon waterfall, which contains a beautiful natural pool below and is surrounded by lush tropical forest. Following your waterfall tour, you will head on a city tour atop a safari truck through the city of Samaná. Discovered by the navigator Christopher Columbus in 1493, this was the point...
2. From Punta Cana: Samana Full Day Trip by Bus and Boat
Benefit from hotel pick-up in the areas of Punta Cana, Bavaro, Uvero Alto and Bayahibe, and then experience the amazing countryside of the Dominican Republic from multiple perspectives. Journey along rural roads and get endless photo opportunities! Start with an approximate 1-hour drive along the main El Seybo highway from Bavaro to Miches. Head for the dock to board a speedboat to Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Upon arrival, climb aboard a safari-style truck and travel to El Limón to visit a typical island house and sample some native and organic fruits straight from the plantation. Continue to the majestic El Limón Waterfall with a short ride through the tropical forest by horse. Get a unique view of the crystal clear waters from the mountain before saying farewell to the horses and hiking alongside the river to take a refreshing dip in the waterfall. Replenish with a typical buffet style...
Very good excursion. The guide is really nice and the organisation is well. One remark during the horse riding the guide told me that he was a volunteer that frustrated me a lot as I didn’t bring money for this activity as the information wasn’t in the description.I recommend to the local agency to add the tips to the excursion price as I don’t think That I was the only one in this case that is not good for the horses guide volunteer that were really nice and helpful.
3. Punta Cana: Whale Whatching Sanctuary Experience
After having been collected from your accommodation, you will begin your day out on the water to watch whales in their natural sanctuary. You will visit a lost paradise aboard a certified boat out in the privileged waters of Samaná and Miches Bay. The whale watching sanctuary in Samana Bay is the winter home of a sea giant, an acrobat of the sea: the humpback whale. From January to March, these waters are their stage and refuge as they come here to give birth to their young or to find a partner to perpetuate their species through further generations. Expert guides will take you to enjoy this natural wonder aboard boats that are specially designed for this activity. As you observe these enormous and majestic beings (which can reach 53 feet in length and 40 tons in weight), you will learn more about their biology, ecology and behavior.

What people are saying about Samaná Province
It was a wonderful day. Very well organized. Food very good and traditional. Because of my pregnancy, we skipped riding and went to the waterfall instead. Personally, I also found it nicer. Riding is not my thing and that way you can experience nature much better. We got a guide for that too. The group only consisted of 6 people, which was very pleasant. We can only recommend the trip, you don't sit in the bus for hours and have more time for the attractions :)
Everything super well organized. There was a tropical storm on the scheduled date and they rearranged everything perfectly for another day. Friendly, efficient ... The theme of the horseback excursion is a bit seedy: there are at least 200 horses (really) and the waterfall is beautiful but there are so many people that it becomes horrible. I recommend reef jet to get around the island as it is fast and cheap.
Very good excursion. Amassing view at el limon waterfall, riding the horse was amazing, lunch tasty , the guide Nata was excellent and beach was also nice. The only problem is transportation and communication with the local agency...we did not receive confirmation for exactly time of pick up and we wait for 5:15 am until 7 am in front of hotel...very frustrating to wake up at 4:30...
Pretty unique your experience all the way around. From the Narcos style plane flight to the beauty of the waterfall, and with all the little touches that made this tour what it was, I’d highly recommend. Nanó did a great job.
Without doubt the best excursion made during our stay! Timing respected, multilingual and very pleasant guide! Small group visit (6 people) Breathtaking scenery and scenery! Above all, do not hesitate!
