Easily our favorite thing we did while in Austria. We had the best time in the salt mines and our tour guide, who took us to and from the mine, was incredible as well. It was nice having everything set up for us so that all we had to worry about was showing up that morning.

This is a good half-day tour outside of Salzburg that gives visuals and context to the “white gold” (salt) that helped Salzburg become an important and rich trade city. We’ve done a salt mine tour in Poland that was better, but this is a good high level tour. The train ride in and the slides were super fun, the boat ride is ok. **Important** this tour needs to get the meeting location correct!! Other reviewers have stated this and it’s no joke!! The name of the kiosk to meet in front of is wrong and so is the gps location. This is really unacceptable and not common for GYG tours.

The rating I have given is an average for the Overall Tour. In regards the tour on the coach with the guide it is 5/5. The tour guide, Walter and driver, Alex were great. Walter has the exact personality required by a tour guide. He was very clear, informative, funny and entertaining. We were taken to a few places along the way to see the scenery and get a bit of free time in Berchtesgaden. Alex was a very capable driver. The tour of the Salt Mines was a 3/5 rating. The tour is fun and informative however the guide we had was not very clear and often started talking before the whole group had caught up to him. There is no photography allowed due to safety and time reasons however this did not stop several people and the guide did not mention anything to those people even though he knew they were taking photos. It is worth doing and especially if you get a guide like Walter.
