Full description

On this half-day tour you'll relive scenes from one of the most popular movies of all time. Visit the locations used during the filming of The Sound of Music in Salzburg and its surrounding countryside. During the tour, you’ll also hear songs from the original soundtrack. Let your guide show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. See Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water. Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today. The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the stairs of the main altar. After dropping you off in Salzburg at the end of the tour you can visit Mirabell Gardens, located just opposite the tour terminal. Maria and the children were seen dancing through the Gardens singing Do-Re-Mi.

This tour was easily a highlight of my trip to Salzburg! Our tour guide was awesome and informative, and my mom and I had so much fun despite the fact that it was raining during our tour. I would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves The Sound of Music or is going to Salzburg.

We had the best time on this tour: a mum and two older teenage daughters who love The Sound of Music, and musicals in general, and a dad who had never seen the film, and is indifferent to hostile to musicals in general! Peter, the guide who gave the commentary, was very knowledgeable about the film and its production, and about the history of Salzburg and the surrounding area. He was also full of exuberance for the singing, which happened quite a bit, and full of humour - he kept everyone entertained with his jokes and funny anecdotes: the Austrian Beer version of Do Ray Me was inspired! The tour was excellent value for money and one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Austria.

Very fun to see the sights of Salzburg through the lens of the Sound of Music! Only complaint- most of the stops seemed rushed. Jump off the bus, few minutes of discussion by the tour guide about how the site tied into the movie, few minutes for pictures, back on the bus. Still a very fun tour with lots of singing!
