1. Naples: Guided Underground Tour with an Archaeologist
Embark on an archaeological journey through the vast underground 40 meters beneath the streets of Naples. Move through time past ancient cisterns, aqueducts, and World War II-era air raid shelters. Start your tour at Piazza San Gaetano. Go through Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the oldest churches in the city, to find the entrance to the underground. Go down to the ancient Greek cisterns carved into the hard stone. Arrive at the lowest point on the route and walk through the tunnels to the ancient Roman water collection tanks. Move along a trail used by the Knights Templar during the Middle Ages before entering air-raid shelters from the 1940s.
