Full description

Enjoy a hassle-free tour of the Colosseum and ancient Rome during the evening and avoid the crowds. Your tour starts with a smooth stroll along the Roman Forum. As the light fades, you will see the heart of Rome’s historic center, with its temples, arches, and the sanctuary of Ancient Rome’s famous Vestal Virgins.

On your way down Via dei Fori Imperiali, you will see the highlight of your tour: the Roman Colosseum. At this time, the Colosseum is virtually empty so you will have a rare experience as your guide leads you around, explaining the history and characters that make the place so fascinating. You will wander the arena floor and see centuries-old graffiti on the Colosseum’s walls. Your tour ends when the sunset is only starting in Rome. Head to the nearby Monti area for dinner or take some time to wander around and photograph the Colosseum. Experience a more peaceful, beautiful, and atmospheric place at this time than ever.

Meeting point

The tour commences on the platform directly in front of Trajan’s Column. Trajan’s Column is located on Via dei Fori Imperiali next to Piazza Venezia. When standing right in front and facing the Victor Emmanuel II Monument (the Wedding Cake), it’s directly to the left across the street. Your tour coordinator will be waiting here wearing either a blue polo shirt or a blue jacket with the City Wonders logo printed on it. If you arrive by taxi, ask your driver to take you to Piazza Foro Traiano. You will see the roughly 30 meters high Trajan’s Column as you enter the Piazza, and the meeting point is up the steps on the platform next to it.

A wonderful tour full of interesting facts and insights into the Eternal City. The guide was charismatic and friendly. I have been before in the daytime and this was more impactful. We had more time and space inside the colosseum to explore and ask questions.

I wish the Paltine Hill was a little earlier, so we could see the area better. Our guide was good. The Collseum guide was sort of ok. Also it was to many people the underground. It was hard to hear if you were at the end because the radio box would cut out.

This was incredible. Our Guide was amazing and so knowledgable. It was a great tour to take on our first day in Rome after disembarking from our Cruise. The Colosseum is so amazing to see lit up at night. The group is not gigantic and you have such personalized experience entering the Area after typical tour hours. Yes, it's going to be pricier than if you went in the day and bought your ticket per Rick Steves for like 12 Euro- but .... go big or go .... how often do you get to see the Colosseum? and then how ofter do you get to see it at night? My 20yo, 17yo, the 53yo and this 50yo were impressed- and glad to have gone!
